Ok, I know...

This is probably the most buttfucked and raped topic to date, but when I see how fine the "Best deathmetal Albums Ever"-thread is making it; even now, I thought like- Hey!?!?! Why not give this a chance?

Anyway, it´s always nice to get other peoples input and stuff - you know that as welll as I do... By the way: Should I have missed a classic?

Here we go:

Burzum - "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss"
Darkthrone - "Under A Funeral Moon"
Darkthrone - "Transylvanian Hunger"
Emperor - "In The Nightside Eclipse"
Emperor - "Anthems At The Welkin To Dusk"
Gorgoroth - "Pentagram"
Gorgoroth - "Antichrist"
Misteltein - "Rape In Rapture"
Satyricon - "The Shadowthrone"
Satyricon - "Nemesis Divina"
Taake - "Nattestid"
Taake - "Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik"
Troll - "Drep De Kristne"

- are among the very best in my opinion. Of corpse there are more, but I dont have the whole goddamn evening!

yeah i second a lot of those. here are the ones i come to think of when i read this topic:

marduk - heaven shall burn...
sibenbürgen - loreia

hm... misteltein, that are those swedish dimmu borgir copycats right?

Graveland - Creed of Iron
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Megiddo - The Devil And The Whore
Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast

Ok, here we go:

Averse Sefira - Homecoming's March
Averse Sefira - Battle's Clarion
Graveland - Celtic Winter
Gehenna - First Spell
Setherial - Nord...
Setherial - Hell Eternal
So many more...

(note: a few might not be true, but meh)

Ulver - Bergtatt
Arcturus - Aspera Hiems Symfonia (LMI is better, but not really black metal)
Solefald - Neonism
Fleurety - Min Tid Skal Komme
Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters
...and Oceans - The Symmetry of I / The Circle of O
Samael - Ceremony of Opposites (later albums better, but again not really black metal)
Dodheimsgard - 666 International
Thorns - s/t
Enslaved - Monumension
Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Weakling - Dead as Dreams
Nagelfar - Strontgorrth
Lux Occulta - The Mother and the Enemy

Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey
Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane
Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Pallate
Burzum - Aske

Im going to have to second some of Luminous suggestions.

The question is do we pick the black metal on musical ability and innovativeness- or on the hard core Burzum- Darkthrone- simple, poorly recorded black metal.

I personally prefer the more innovative bands-
Enslaved-really anything- Monumension- bleow the lights
Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale- If this is considered black metal
Ulver - Bergatt
Dodheimsgaard 666
I loved Rotting Christs sound on their last album - although I wouldnt call them black metal.

As for the hardcore shit- i have a few albums- and am no expert on who is more evil.

I love DOm Sathanas- but the singing is so bad it takes so much away.
The abyss had a good ultra black metal album.

War- We are...Total WAR!
Emperor- Anthems to Welkin at Dusk
Mayhem- De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

DAMN! I forgot both Immortal, Graveland, Ulver and Mayhem which of course should be on my list as well!!

Someone asked if Misteltein were the Dimmu Borgir copycats... Well, Check "Rape In Rapture" out and judge with reason next time.. Instead of being too melodic like your reference, they are cold, evil AND melodic! The track "Twillight´s Sigh" is one of the greatest tracks ever!

By the way:

The Abyss - BOTH!!
Mörk Gryning - "Maelstrom Chaos"

Darkthrone-A Blaze in The Northern Sky
Darkthrone-Transilvanian Hunger
Darkthrone-Plagueweilder
Dissection-The Somberlain
Dissection-Storm of the Lights bane
Vinterland-Welcome to my last chapter
Sacramentum-Far away from the Sun
Immortal-Pure Holocaust
Burzum-Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Gaahlskagg-Erotic Funeral
Funeral Mist-Salvation
Ulver-Nattens Madigral
Mayhem-De Mysteriis dom Sathanas
Satyricon-Nemesis Divina
Taake-Bjoergvin

well I can only answer for myself but hopefully most of the people in here, like myself, of course go by the musical quality of the artist, not how many people he's killed or how poorly his music was recorded. not doing so would be a good reason to call someone poser, but i see your point, sometimes I wonder myself.

Many that have already been mentioned, as well as

Darkthrone - Hate Them
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism
Bathory - Blood Fire Death
Dissection - The Somberlain
Enslaved - Vinking Ligr Veldi
Absu - Tara
Melechesh - Djinn
Aura Noir - Black Thrash Attack
Old Man's Child - The Pagan Prosperity
Zyklon - World Ov Worms

Please Note: I do not care if you think something is or is not Black Metal.
