My cats do this all the time as well. Never mind their actual water that never, ever is depleted. The plants must die of thirst.

This is a bizarre phenomena.. My parents cats (the last one and later the two new ones) won't touch their water dish but they all drink out of the dog dish. My cat here does the same thing, it won't touch it's own very clean water dish but when my room-mates girlfriend brings her dog it'll drink out of that dish. Also the sink.... I swear cats do it to piss us off.

Yeah, unfortunately I had to shake it off and trick it so I could sneak off without it following me, otherwise the mother would of killed or disowned it for having a human scent on it.
