...kick so much ass. How can you people not like them? They are only one of the top death metal bands today. I'm currently listening to their entire discography, and it's all killer.

The Chasm>all other active death metal bands

I think I'll try Deathgasm. Gonna look while I'm on vacation first and by then they might have their credit card ordering on the site.

Any album good to start with or does it matter? Procession to the Infraworld and Conjuration of the Spectral Empire have both been on my list for awhile.

Conjuration, monotonous? The only Chasm release which gets monotonous for me is From the Lost Years.

And I don't remember Procreation of the Inner Temple being this grand. Wow! Sure, the production sucks ass, but the music rules. And I looked on eBay, Procreation CD went for $110! I shit you not. I bought mine for about $12.

I still don't understand the classic status given to Deathcult. IMO, it is one of their lesser releases.

My rank:

1. Conjuration of the Spectral Empire
2. Procession to the Infraworld
3. Procreation of the Inner Temple
4. Reaching the Veil of Death
5. From the Lost Years
6. Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph

and yet you listen to Marduk.... :p

I don't why all of you bought Deathcult first. That would have been my last recommendation.

Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph is by far their greatest release, and probably the best death metal recording ever made. Sheer perfection.

Conjuration... is their second best. Procession... is their worst.

Weird, I know JayK, Nate, and spaffe didn't like Deathcult. It's not my favorite by any stretch, but it's not horrible like they say.

Maybe they're just gay.

Deathcult is boring. The reason why everyone buys it first is because it sells for no more than $2 on half.com, and it's the Chasm album everyone buys to test the water simply because it's so friggin' cheap.

Best death metal record? Not even close. I'm not even sure if I still have mine - I might have sold it. If not, it's up for trade if anyone's interested.

Deathcult... is magnificent. The melodies alone are sublime - exploring completely new territory. The way it's all set out, like a narrative, with obvious "movements", is breathtaking. You can listen to it a hundred times and notice a new moment of genius every time. It's a tough one to get into though, I know that, but I seriously recommend giving it another try.
