The definite, new "How Do You Feel" Thread

For some weeks, or even longer, I notice this slightly strange pattern I developed: When I meet new people, some of them have a very similar appearance, look and behaviour to people I used to know years ago, or still know.
So I automatically think, that "this person has a personality like (insert name of former/other friend)" which can be positive or negative; and it turns out to be like that very often.
So I wonder, do they really behave and (re-)act the same because my theory (that there are just some similar & likeminded people in the world and sometimes I meet several of them in different years..) works, or do they act the same ways because I might subconsciously behave towards them the same way as to their lookalikes, and this is just the same response?

nf: furious, and with no precise ideas as to why. well, i spent my saturday night at home working of all things, and today i only have the consolation of lunch with a mate before i go back to more SAS, but that's not the only point. i am feeling locked in, because today i would love to go out but i can't due to the fact that everything is closed on sunday and that i have to work. and let us not forget that i have about three million things to do before the end of the month. :( :(

Great after having watched the newly aquired vids from Necrophagist. Those guys are awesome! :worship: Its frigid here, but the sun is shining, so its either skiing or a walk with Gaia in the afternoon. Forecast for tomorrow says -9 to -17 for the day and -12 to -20 for the night, so its gonna be great!

NF : Yay. Going to work. Then, dinner at mom's...:Smug:

@marduk : We had rain yesterday in Ottawa...We're supposed to have loads of snow but it keeps melting away. I can hardly believe we're in January. I miss winter.

that's interesting... I guess you also have to wonder why that happens so often to you, as in my case it's uncommon. Maybe you subconsciouslly yet intentionally seek people who remind you of others, to fill a hole those persons left, or whatever. And I'd like to think they act the same way because you behave towards them like you did to their lookalikes... and keep expecting similar responses. It would be depressing otherwise, as it would mean most people are replaceable and unoriginal, and I still hope we're all one of a kind, for good or evil.

on a related note, I once met a girl from Peru who looked EXACTLY like a girl from my city that I used to dislike strongly. And more scary, they had the same voice. The girl was seemingly friendly enough, but everytime I looked at her I remembered the other girl and had negative associations, so I couldn't stand her.

^Sometimes a similar thing happens to me, ie random people who don't look at all like people i know, remind me of those people in specific ways. It could be a gesture, the way they look, a certain way they say something, in general some similar trait i associate with them.
It normally happens in regard to very few people i know, and i'm very positive it's because i'm trying to fill that gap. n__n

But they don´t fill a gap in those cases I didn´t like the first incarnation of the person (as I said it are not only friends, but people in general), or when they resemble people I am friends with right now. I could only agree if it are nice persons from the past that I miss, but even then, your idea wouldn´t work perfectly in all cases. For example when it are persons that I haven´t actively searched for, but accidentally met, such as when they are acquaintances of friends, so I cannot know who it will be I´ll meet at an event.
A short while ago I had the impression that Mikko of Swallow The Sun is a bit like Ville Valo, which I found a surprising thought :loco: (and no, this is not my main example, the others are about people I really_know).

It would be depressing otherwise, as it would mean most people are replaceable and unoriginal, and I still hope we're all one of a kind, for good or evil.

agree, for sure everyone is an original - even though I also already ran into personalities like myself - and I don´t think the persons I see are all copies of each other, just they have some similarities and I wonder why I meet always several of a kind. I would think it is really like you also mentioned, that surely I look for those kind I already liked in the past, but it doesn´t explain the part with persons that have a certain negative side and tend to clone, too.

yeah, I can understand that. The older memories made you react so, and the girl had not much a chance. This pattern can happen in general also with things, that people can dislike colours, songs, scents, situations etc which remind them of something bad in the past.

Siren: :D

@fireangel: maybe you're grouping people, in a sense? ie, you tend to focus on some characteristics and put them under groups, rather than noticing the details that make them unique? maybe you happen to have 1337 organising skillz? :p

NF: Quite good. Not amazing because the aftermath of having one of the most amazing weekends in your life is always full of nostalgia, but good enough. :) Details later (if someone asks or i feel like sharing). I'll read everything everyone else has posted sometime.

Huuh, -17°C in the morning here, wonder how low was it during the night. Those 20 mins to work were a real struggle. I really dont know how the Russians manage that with 2 weeks of -26 a day. :yuk:
