I know everyone is saying this but Dead Heart is definitely my favorite too. I saw them live with Opeth last year and Loomis was incredible. Also, the synchronized headbanging was hilarious.

why are they overrated?

Well, nearly everyone seems to cite them as the best current American metal band, and a large number of people regard Jeff Loomis as one of the best guitarists. People think Warrell Dane has an excellent voice. 'This Godless Endeavour' was made album of the month by just about everyone, and it was the first record that wasn't re-issue in a LOOOOOONG time to get 10/10 from Terrorizer, implying that it's something of a classic. People seem to think the lyrics for 'Sentient 6' are somehow good.

The fact that none of these things are actually true is why they are overrated, IMHO.

FUCK what about IN MEMORY

I love nevermore, probably my 2nd fav metal band. Never got to see them live.
I'd say my favorite album was The Politics of Ecstasy.

Favorite song might be Optimist or Pessimist from In Memory. That opening solo kills.

Dane is the only vocalist of that style i like and can listen to without cringing. Loomis is amazing. Van Williams matches the band perfectly in all respects. Songs are all fun to play on guitar.

Can't say enough.:notworthy

Fave songs:

Inside four Walls
The Heart Collector
Engines of Hate
Beyond Within
The Fault of the Flesh
Dreaming Neon Black
Final Product
My Acid Words
The Psalm of Lydia
Never Purify
The River Dragon has Come
Tomorrow turned into Yesterday

I won't debate who is better than Loomis because apparantly playing fast = teh best to some people here. But there are much more creative guitar players. Although he might be the best in palm muting riffs and the use of effects :Smug:

And using a 7-string guitar is common in bands that have "tight sounding" riffs, but are actually very simple to play power chords etc... So basically it adds to the quality of the riffs but does not make someone a better guitar player.

Those two statements still make no sense.

A 7 string doesn't make tight riffs tighter and of course it doesn't make you a better player. He uses it because he wants the SOUND it produces.

And Loomis isn't just speed, he uses his speed in a good creative way.

If you play a riff on a 7 string it makes it sound better. 7 strings are for people who want to be able to play heavier sounding riffs, not for someone that is full of creative ideas. And alot of his riffs are very simple, and as someone said on the other thread, his solos are composed of diminished scale notes played in fairly complex patterns, VERY fast.

It makes what sound better?

There is no difference between a riff on a 7 string and a 6 string setup in the same tuning.

A different tuning can make you more creative.

I don't no why your still argueing, your limited experience really is showing.
