I saw a trade off between Loomis and the other guitarist...wasn't impressed...pretty sad actually...improvisation ain't their strong point.

Final note...don't like Laiho, can't stand COB...he's a great technician...period. His technical skills are stronger(better, cleaner, faster picking and fingering for sure) but I prefer to listen to Loomis. COB is bubble gum shit. Nevermore gets a little powdery and fluffy at times, but Enemies of Reality is a great album and a great vehicle to spotlight Loomis' talent...he really opens up here.

I don't think we totally disagree here...I simply listed other talented guitarists that were overlooked or being put down for reasons that didn't seem to have anything to do with their musical and technical abilities.

Don't want to start a war...just want guitarists to open their minds and see the strengths of other players. There are so many clone guitarists out there now...it's hard for young guitarists to really grow and not get stuck in the same old thing.

Sorry if my advanced age offends you...you'll all be nearing 40 one day...I'm lucky enough to have stayed unpathetically young at heart and mind...my teenage kids don't seem to mind hanging with me at the metal shows and meeting some of their favorite bands backstage or watching me shred. I hope you all can say that when you get here.

Still have to disagree about you saying Laiho is better technically than Loomis, but whatever.

I think your over assuming peoples lack of knowledge. Most people here know who the good players are, but this thread is about Nevermore, hence why Loomis is being discussed as opposed to others.

How anyone with functioning ears could think Laiho is superior to Loomis is quite perplexing.

Loomis could play Malmsteen licks in his sleep while farting at 16 and he nearly got the Megadeth gig instead of Friedman but Mustaine said that he was not ready and too young ( 17 at the time I think).

Wasn't Schenker 17 when he joined Scorpions ?

which schenker are you referring to?

by the same token, your age doesnt deem you superior necessarily. theres boatloads of guitarists you still havent heard im sure, and what you consider to be superior technical skills, isnt necessarily the final say in what is the most talented playing. but i respect your opinion for the most part, i just cannot wrap my head around your opinion of laiho being better than loomis. its pretty mindblowing actually. ive seen both bands many times, and heard every song by both bands...and theres just not even a comparison.

I gues it's that I find Laiho to be very crisp, clean and well practiced...Loomis can tend to get a bit wild and less precise...that's really the main factor formulating my opinion.

Haven't seen either live as of yet...only on video...maybe an actual live performance would swing my opinion.

Just saw Johhny A. opening for Eric Johnson tonight...both great guitarists in their own right...excellent show.

well im not trying to swing your opinion, just trying to clarify how you came to that conclusion. its like if you said a mustang is faster than a ferrari because the ferrari's wheels chirp more on the start off. not to mention youve now copped to not seeing either guitarist play live...which would also be like saying the mustang would win in a race even though youve never seen the two actually race before. loose comparison, but i hope you see what im getting at.

easy cowboy, now youre putting words into my mouth. i never claimed to be the best guitar player. in fact i said how i wasnt a shredder nor ever claimed to be or ever will be. what i did say, is that with merely 8 years of experience, i can play laiho solos without any real difficulty, but loomis continues to blow me away with his talent. for a man of your age, i shouldnt imagine that concept is entirely hard to grasp. but maybe im overestimating you. frankly, i dont care either way...discussions concerning laiho are silly no matter what in the scheme of things.

lawlmao, so you're saying you play Bodom songs in yoru spare time? :zombie:

lol laiho was kinda sloppy when I saw him, whereas loomis was perfect

I concur...Laiho is sloppy....really sloppy. He sounds like Yngwie after a 2 week whiskey and donuts bender. :Puke:

I get your point

You can see everybody...gotta base something on the recordings. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see them in person.

Neither of them are my favorite...that's for sure...they're both good players. I really have a hard time listening to any COB and from any articles I've read, Laiho seems like a real dick. Again, I never said I was a fan.

The whole thing started when I wanted to point out some strengths of other good guitarists who seemed for some reason to be dismissed.

I haven't yet heard anything from Loomis that stops me in my tracks...nothing particlarly original or melodically or compositionally shattering. I own 4 albums and don't plan on buying anymore.
