What do people think of their "cover" of sounds of silence?
Kir-ir-Bannog said:did anyone in this thread actually say he was "the best"??????????????
schenkadere said:I'm not sure...really don't feel like checking either. You're really the best.:Smug:

I've seen some stuff from him in recent times that's really impressed me. Not particularily how good he is at 'metal' but rather how versatile it is. It's always something I strove for when learning, and to see someone seamlessly transition from playing neoclassical shred to classical acoustic to slap technique and jazz is just amazing.
Loomis is great. No doubt about it, that's why being the fanboy I am, I grabbed the same guitar he uses and never regretted it. At times though, I do feel that he tends to be on the monotonous side. What he does, he does really really really well, but out of the broader musical spectrum, how much does his playing style really encompass?

riverside is overhyped. nevermore is just well loved.

funny I don't dislike Loomis as a guitar player, but whateverNineFeetUnderground said:edit: and for the record metal_wrath...just shut your pie hole. youve dug your grave in this thread deep enough as it is...just lay in it now. your point was shit.

schenkadere said:Well, on my parting note, it's great to know that you're all such accomplished guitarists who's opinions truly count for something. I'm sure you're all very well versed and experienced. Farewell you musical, shredding genius'.
NineFeetUnderground said:well ive been playing about 8 years. i could play a handful of alexi's stuff without any real issue. but most of what loomis does still blows me away. granted im not a "shreddy" guitarist by nature, nor have any interest in being one...but thats all the more reason for my argument.
edit: i can also play most of m. amott's work
Keith! said:I really like Amotts soloing alot. His work on Carcass i'm talking about. Some of the solo's on Heartwork are amazing. Not alot fo shredding, but some brilliant melodic playing.
Metal Wrath - Can you tell me why you are arguing with your 1 year of experience against years and years of combined experience by other members? Crazy.
schenkadere said:Do any of you actually play? and if so, with any level of expertise...I'm curious what is formulating these opinions.
I'm not a fan of Laiho's music...but is is technically superior to Loomis...Petrucci's music may be boring at times, but he's amazing accomplished and diverse player.
Liking Loomis is fine...he's a great player, but considering him the best is foolish...I'm sure he'd agree.
You folks are confusing opinions of the music with virtuosity of the guitarists.
