The New Killswitch Engage

i dig it

the tone isn't as thick as the last album, but it's got a little more growl and bite

still using that uber compressed snare sound tho, never been a huge fan of that

i like the song too...the intro did sound a lot like 'fixation on the darkness' but great riffs as always...i really like that section where they mix the clean and heavy guitars

I did immediately think of "Fixation on the Darkness" during the beginning of "This Fire Burns", but it's a super powerful song in my opinion. Their songwriting ability is top-knotch. In all of their songs, the pretty choruses are as equally awesome and moving as their heavy riffing is. Anyway, do any of you remember in the months before "The End of Heartache" came out, there was a shittily mixed early version of the song "When Darkness Falls" that was released on the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack? I think "This Fire Burns" is the same kind of deal, and judging from the mix, I would say that there is absolutely no way that this is any type of final mix, at least if it's a song that will be on their next album. Killswitch Engage wouldn't settle for it, after what Andy did for "The End of Heartache". It's probably just a matter of time before it's announced that Andy is doing album #3.

I'm really getting sick of the generic radio friendly clean metalcore chorus. I mean, almost every single new band is doing this, using the same chords and cheesy melodies. Stop it! Howard has a wonderful voice indeed and that's the only thing that make me tolerate KSE. The musicianship is good but the songwriting is running dry imo. Now, about the production, I think it sounds fair and I'd be happy if I can match it even if it doesn't sound Sneapesque.

they have booked both june and july at zing studios where adam d. works to record the new album, which means probably late fall/xmas release. i am sure they will put out some good stuff. hopefully andy will still mix.
