The new pic thread

@lina: i wasn't referring to you with the namecalling but rather to him.

also, i know that everyone pays for polluting cars (that's exactly the idea of negative externalities), and that's why i am in favor of externality taxes such as higher rates on large cars.

@villains: cultural warriors also referred to people on both sides of the culture war. the environmentalists were being sanctimonious and the truck driver was being aggressive.

I dont think they were being sanctimonious, they made in fact very valid points. He admitted himself he didnt drive much.. so what does he buy a pickup for? The sunday drive to the bakery? If he doesnt drive that much, why not get a bike right away? If you dont have a trailer to pull, say for a horse or a boat, SVU's or pickups really dont make any sense. People like Kov who actually need their cars every now and then are a ridiculously small minority and Im all in favour of huge taxes on those. If you can afford over 60k euros for a new Porsche Cayenne, you can afford to pay 3 times the taxes.

HA!

Investment property will cut down taxes from 45% to, say, 15%, so you can drive 2 Porsches now :heh:

And no one buys those for cash anyway, I assume.

Well I would never have thought that such a moderate dose of sarcasm in my questioning of The Antihero's newly purchased vehicle would create such a polemic.

For starters, I do apologize to you, The Antihero, if I've insulted you or any one else. It was not my intention. My "outburst" as you call it, has however managed to initiate quite an interesting discussion on the status of cars in our modern society. Cars and also bunches of cunts, apparently (but I can't blame you, one outburst creates another, I imagine).

All in all, I'm a double-crossing bastard because I drove for two years a 1987 Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck, with an automatic transmission which was probably responsible for most of the smog present in those days in the Ottawa region. So I've killed more trees with that old hunk of junk than you probably will with your pick-up, unless you run into them, of course.

@hyena: You're right, I was being sanctimonious. However I was unaware of the vehicle's specs at the time. Now that I know, I am still sanctimonious but I wouldn't use the over-polluting argument anymore.

All in all, I'll stick to my bus pass for the moment.

Maybe you misunderstand.........it has nothing to do with a culture clash, it has to do with people acting civilized towards each other.

If I reacted "aggressively" it was because it bothers me that someone would attack me in such a manner. Just because you disagree with my lifestyle doesn't give you reason to be impolite. And excuse me for sounding like a child, but I wasn't the one who started this.

You won't be hearing from me anymore. Backwards ruffian that I am, I obviously don't fit in and have no wish to further impose on all your cultured asses.

 You want to know what's selfish and inconsiderate? Being a total freaking jackass to somebody you don't even know and thinking you have the right to be rude to anybody you don't like just because it's the internet.

I feel sorry for people like you. I really do. Learn some manners.
