The Non RC Staff 2004 Top 10 list

All you need from them is the EP, Irony is a Dead Scene, which features Mike Patton on vocals. Maybe that is why they drew that comparison? That still makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Do you know what they sound like? They are super technical noisecore. MEH!

Well sheeeeeeeeeit. Yeah I have Irony on CD-R, I dig Pig Latin a whole lot, and the other songs are pretty alright when I'm in a tech-metal mood. If Miss Machine is pretty similar I probably won't buy it, I have like 3 albums in similar genres that I only listen to once a year at best, so, like you said. MEH!

1. Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
2. Metal Church - The Weight of the World
3. Manticora - 8 Deadly Sins
4. Wuthering Heights - Far From the Madding Crowd
5. Drunkard - Hellish Metal Dominate
6. Motörhead - Inferno
7. Graveland - Dawn of Iron Blades
8. Dismember - Where Ironcrosses Grow
9. Vader - The Beast
10. Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm, simply for the sheer fun factor.

Need to hear: Saxon, Deathspell Omega, Blaze.

1. Deathspell Omega - Si Momentum Requires, Circumspice
2. Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
3. Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath
4. Enslaved - Isa
5. The Chasm - Spell of Retribution
6. Stormlord - The Gorgon Cult
7. Vreid - Kraft
8. Demonoid - Riders of the Apocalypse
9. Amon Amarth - Fate of Norns
10. Behemoth - Demigod

Not a great year, but I can't complain. Maybe 2005 will be better.

I realize that I forgot Deathspell Omega and that I haven't heard the new Enslaved enough times. They could have made it onto my list.

1.Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
2.Enslaved - ISA
3.Isis-Panopticon
4.Elend - Sunwar The Dead
5.Orphaned Land - Mabool
6.Void Of Silence - Human Antithesis
8.Cult Of Luna - Salvation
9.Thee Maldoror Kollective - A Clockwork Highway
10.Neurosis - The Eye Of Every Storm

Honorable Mentions (also known as other essentials I'm aware of , for most of them) : Mastodon - Leviathan
DEP - Miss Machine
Secrets Of The Moon - Carved In Stigmata Wounds
Esoteric - Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum (discovering it , might end up at 5-10 spot , because it rules)
Mar De Grises - The Tatterdemalion Express
Disillusion - Back To Times Of Splendor (best melo-prog-death etc.. of the year)
Jesu - Heartache
Lunar Aurora
- Zyklus
Lisa Gerrard & Patrick Cassidy - Immortal Memory
Woods Of Ypres - Pursuit of the sun & Allure of the Earth
Sun Of The Sleepless/Natchmahr - Split cd
The Ocean - fluXion

I didn't dig Vreid , but their fucking good for those who like Blackn'Roll , good new start for ex-Windirs :headbang:

This will be kind of tricky since I've only heard seven or so full lengths from 2004. I will include eps and similar as well and it will also result in records that I found so-so will appear,on the list.

  • 01. Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires Circumspice
  • 02. Arckanum/Svartsyn - Kaos Svarta Mar/Skinning the Lambs
  • 03. Koldbrann/Ljå - Split (7")
  • 04. Armagedda - Ond Spiritism
  • 05. Finntroll - Nattfödd/Trollhammaren
  • 06. Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath
  • 07. Woods of Infinity/Horna - Split (7")
  • 08. Nasheim - Undergång/Evighet

Miss Machine is compared to Angel Dust by writers in both Terrorizer and Decibel magzines. It doesn't sound like Angel Dust at all. It is also quite a bit different than Irony is a Dead Scene. HOWEVER, it is like Angel Dust in the since that it spits in the face of the mainstream, while still expanding on melody in a way the band has never done before (isn't that exactly what Angel Dust was known for?). Face it, DEP is one of the most important bands in metal right now.

Well the irony is I hate making lists, but here it goes:

1 Isis Panopticon
2 Drudkh Autumn Aurora
3 Ministry Houses of the Mole
4 Pig Destroyer Terrifyer
5 YOB Illusion of Motion
6 Neurosis Eye of Every Storm
7 Eyes of Fire Ashes to Embers- Im the only one that loves this.
8 Mar De Grisis
9 Morgion Cloaked By Ages
10 Demonoid Riders of the Apocalypse

Hon Mention: The Ocean: Fluxion, Cult of Luna, Converge, Vader.

Disappointments, Samael- absolutely awful, I really didnt care for the new Mastodon or Today is the Day either.

Things I should listen to: Ufomammut- I have two songs, Blat Aus Nord,

Here's my first attempt, the ordering may change completely when I publish the list in a more detailed fashion (or be dispensed with completely).

1. Orphaned Land - Mabool
2. Isis - Panopticon
3. Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion
4. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of Natural History
5. Blut Aus Nord - Screw you guys, I'm counting the work that transforms 2004
6. Ayreon - The Human Equation
7. Neurosis - The Eye Of Every Storm
8. Void Of Silence - Human Antithesis
9. Pain Of Salvation - Be
10. Dead Soul Tribe - The January Tree

honorable mentions, or the 11-25 portion (in no order): Morgion, Evergrey, Mastodon, Mercenary, Drudkh, Fates Warning, SunnO))), Chroma Key, Mono, Riverside, Leviathan, Threshold, My Dying Bride, Jag Panzer, Mithras (if you consider it 2004)

still waiting for: Enslaved

Ah so...

Alright, I need to check this out. I'll illegally download some tracks first.

So is there a cut off date for when these should be in? I'm just wondering if Speed is going to start a working tally, and then just add to it as new lists come in....

..it'll be interesting to see a 'work in progress'. :)

Okay early impressions of the new Bloodbath are very good, and jeeeeezus if Tägtgren hasn't pulled off another wholly distinct vocal performance then I'll eat my shoe. It already sounds like what I love about Breedind Death so I'll probably pick this up when it's released in the US.
