In all honesty mate get whatever guitar you want so long as you shell out more for some Seymour Duncans afterwards (if the guitar doesn' come with them in the first place).

me and my Explorer. not to sound like a broken record, but they are great mid range guitars.
I got the G-400 Goth Series
Pickups do suck but it feels nice, how does the Explorer feel?

I just meant: buy new strings.
And if youre learning, play whatever, you dont need a really good guitar. In fact if you buy a cheap one and learn stuff on it, when you grab a good one you´ll play miles better. I used to play thrash on a spanish guitar for about two years, then I got an electric and it was a piece of cake.

ONCE YOU MOVE THE STRAP BUTTON BEHIND THE NECK WHERE IT BELONGS, IT FEELS GREAT. GOOD BALANCE, AND DECENT FRET ACCESS. I SWITCHED THE BRIDGE FOR A DUNCAN, BUT THE NECK IS AMAZING ODDLY ENOUGH. NO REASON TO CHANGE IT.

at the moment i'd only get the bridge. like i said i gives you a good contrast having it that way. i'd say a sh-5 or sh-6.
the sh 4 is good IF you have a good amp. otherwise its not powerfull enough
