I will refrain from discussing my spiritual beliefs here.

Why? This is the forum to discuss viewpoints on life.

am i the only american on this forum that likes british humor??? i love "Red Dwarf"
Monty Python and Douglas Adams are great. So no

The meaning of life is, really, whatever you make of it. In my experience material objects can't provide lasting happiness, nor can secluded prayer, meditation, or discussion. Life to me is about learning stuff, meeting people, seeing places, exposing my palette to the millions of different flavors of life out there, celebrating infinite diversity. It's about the thrill and it's about passion:

"I beleive in everything, nothing is sacred
I beleive in nothing, everything is sacred" - Tom Robbins, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (excellent book)

which specific american humor is it that you hate???
All of it. All of Television, the programs on it, Hollywood comedy, nearly everything most Americans find funny, I find either utterly stupid or pointless.

Now, now, I disagree. Even though alot of comedians and comedy shows are atrocious these days, we still have the funniest comedy in the world. You dont like the Colbert Report or the Daily Show? How about Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm? Arrested Development? The Simpsons? How about Wedding Crashers? Rescue Me is good too. Or whenever Robin Williams does a riff--some dont like him however.

O jesus! I forgot to mention douglas adam's hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series! yes defintely.

Douglas Adam's series are probably the funniest/randomist books ever written :) :headbang:

rest in peace Douglas Adams

Guess what! Richard Dawkins (Lord Red Dragon knows who I'm talking about) who wrote "The Selfish Gene"-- he was best friends with Douglas Adams! And do you know what else? Dawkins is married to Lala (Ward) and she starred in the Doctor Who (science fiction series - very famous in UK) as the doctor's assistant and she was previously married to Tom Baker who was playing the doctor at the time.
This links me on to a very funny series in the worst possible taste that is the most popular comedy show in Britain: Little Britain. Tom Baker does a regular voice-over on it.
LRD would problably love it, especially the transvestite who's catchphrase is "I'm a laydeee!" and is constantly offended that no one believes it.
Vicky Pollard, the chav is my favourite because I know someone exactly like her. Anyone else admit to watching it?

Little Britain has became darn awful! But I would thoroughly recommend the first series, it is endlessly funny and a show at its peak.

Richard Dawkin's is an interesting fellow. I've met him twice at conferences, great chat and very witty! Unfortunately he is as fundamentalist as they come.

Bean is funny. Since you mentioned Black Adder, it came into mind.

Yeh most stuff with Rowan Acktins (is that how u spell it?) is funny

South Parks alright - its gotten a bit old though. I like Family Guy - now theres a cartoon

I've seen a couple of episodes of South Park, but it was relying too much on swearing and bodily functions which is not imaginative. Black Adder is great, there is loads of wit on that.
