I've asked this before, but we have a lot of new forum members since the last time, so I'm gonna do it again..so sue me *g*.

If you could put together the perfect 90-120 minute SymX setlist, which songs would you include? Which songs would you avoid? Which songs do they REALLY need to do live, & which have they just done to death?

Enquiring minds wanna know..

Oh, and a few teasers about the new cd (call this a forum easter egg of sorts; a hidden goodie *grin*): the name of the new cd is Paradise Lost, & the last time we talked about it, MJR said he had found an awesome artist who wants to do something really spectacular with the liner. I spoke to Mike briefly on Friday, & Jason was there at The Dungeon finishing up his recording; Mike said he'd call me later in the weekend to give me a more detailed studio report, but he sounded quite pleased with how things are progressing. So there'll be a new studio report soon..

Bitchin!!!! Thanks for the news!!!

I don't really think there's anything they need to play or stay away from. I'd love to see the second half of V, but everything else is open for whatever. If they play, i'm there.

It would be cool to hear A Fool's Paradise live, only because I never have. Maybe some Damnation Game era stuff too, I mean their setlists are usually good no matter how they lay it out so I can't complain.

Some of the top of my head that would be awsome:

-The Bird-Serpent War/Cataclysm
-Church of the Machine
-Candlelight Fantasia
-Awakenings
-Fallen

Some that must always be played:

-Evolution
-Of Sins and Shadows
-Inferno
-The Odyssey (or the new epic)
-Smoke and Mirrors

Thats all my input...

paradise lost, eh? cant wait!

anyway, here goes:

inferno
incantations of the apprentice
king of terrors
the turning
evolution/the grand design
fallen
bird-serpent war/cataclysm
on the breat of poseidon
of sins and shadows
pharoah
church of the machine
in the dragons den

SOLO ALBUMS
blackout
enter by the 12th gate
song off the dark chapter
jason rullo drum solo/lepond bass solo

ACT TWO
the oddysey
the divine wings of trgedy
rediscovery part one
rediscovery part two

that would be totally bitchin right there. I guess if we altered time, we could make it work.

Oh god. The cd is named Paradise Lost. With a name like that, it's guaranteed to be epic.

I can't think of an ultimate setlist. As long as it contained plenty of these, I'd orgasm:

Divine Wings
The Odyssey
Masquerade
The Edge Of Forever
Candlelight Fantasia
Communion
Accolades 1 n '2 in order
King of Terrors
Witching Hour
Damnation Game
Raging Seasons (I really wanna hear Russ sing that song)
Evolution
Church of the Machine
A Fool's Paradise :awe:
Frontiers
Sonata --> In The Dragon's Den
A Winter's Dream
Sins n Sshadows
Inferno
......
Fuck it. As long as they don't screw up, I'm happy.:headbang:

I loved the orchestral stuff in the odyssey, so maybe this new epic will extend that further. My guess is that he has tarja singing in it :D:D:D. plzplzplz :).

Its interesting that the album is called paradise lost. Cos it only just begun in V. "Cos all I know, is my paradise has begun", or something like that.... in rediscovery ;).

Best post ever!

Okay, for a setlist I would like to see some obscure, rarely played or never before played tunes. It would be cool if they pulled a Dream Theater and learned like 30 songs which they played randomly...just an idea.

Songs I think they've "done to death" include Inferno, Of Sins and Shadows, Sea of Lies, Wicked, and Evolution. Of their shorter, heavier songs, they seem to favor these, but I think they ignore the other songs of the same type.

The songs with (or) in between them are just a suggestion to rotate back and forth during a tour.

The Damnation Game (or) Dressed to Kill
Smoke & Mirrors
Accolade II (or) Awakenings
Fallen
Church of the Machine
The Edge of Forever
King of Terrors (or) The Eyes of Medusa
Communion and the Oracle (they play it a lot, but it's so beautiful)
Through the Looking Glass (or) Rediscovery Pt. II
Out of the Ashes
Absense of Light (or) A Fool's Paradise (have they ever played either live?)
Frontiers (the ULTIMATE obscure track...it's so good!)
The Relic (have they EVER played this live?)
The Odyssey (or) Divine Wings

That's about 120 minutes right there. Of course, anything the band plays will rock awesomely hard. This is just a suggestion.

Hrm...well, I've been blessed with seeing them three times, and granted they played some of the same stuff each time, it's not exactly a bad thing. There's a reason why they play Of Sins and Shadows ALL the time; the crowd response is amazing and the song just flat out rocks. I also love Wicked live...but as for the perfect setlist...

4 shorter loud, fast, angry songs
2 medium-long awesome songs (Accolade and Awakenings preferably)
A slower ditty
Epic of choice
Some more shorter to medium angry songs, like 2 more
Two not so heavy/rockin' songs, just two more awesome songs (Rediscovery and Accolade 2 say)
More angry/loud
Epic
The End

I'm not sure if that's 1.5 to 2 hours, but it'd be fun to see :D

Hello, Jax. Thanks for that amazing news... just made my night. I am SO excited for this album :headbang:

For the full setlist, I'd love to see:

The Odyssey
Edge of Forever
Eyes of Medusa
Frontiers
DoB for Rullo's sake, and because the song is awesome (would be nice if this song turned into a full-length drum solo - I've always wanted to hear a solo by Rullo) with transition to Candle once again for Russ'
Redisc. I and II
Accolade I and II
Winter's Dream I and II
Awakenings
Lady of the Snow

Songs they should play more often:

The Edge of Forever!!
Dressed to Kill
Out of the Ashes
Eyes of Medusa
DWoT
The Odyssey
Candelight Fantasia
The Turning
In the Dragon's Den
Through the Looking Glass
The Relic
The Bird-Serpent War
A Fool's Paradise

They have to play certain songs for first timers, (Evolution, Inferno, Wicked, Smoke and Mirrors, Of Sins and Shadows), but my throwing in some of the songs listed above, they will blow my mind and undoubtedly those of the newbies too. :heh:

Thanks for the update :)

Of course this setlist is subject to change once the new CD is made. Fresh from off the top of my head:

The Edge of Forever
Sea of Lies
Candlelight Fantasia
Orion - The Hunter
Egypt
Rediscovery (1 and 2)
Something that combines Accolades I and II? Just a thought.
A Winter's Dream

Evolution (the grand design)
Inferno
Of Sins and Shadows
Sea of Lies
Egypt
Pharoah
Church of the Machine
Smoke and Mirrors
In the Dragon's Den
Orion the Hunter
Bird serpent War
OUT OF THE ASHES
King of Terrors

that's all I can think of right now

OMG!!!!!! OMG!!!!! OMG!!!!! "Paradise Lost", I'll be dreaming about this name every day from now on... oh f*ck, this looks soooooo, so promissing!! :D

Thanks for the update, Jax!

Here's me trying to be realistic about a setlist. Like everyone, I'd love them to include all the epics and such, but here's the songs I think almost have to be kept, and some songs that aren't played live that I think a lot of people would like to hear.

Essential Live SX Songs:

Sins and Shadows
Smoke and Mirrors
Evolution
Inferno
At least one Accolade

Stuff they don't play much:
MASQUERADE
In the Dragon's Den (with the Sonata intro!)
A Fool's Paradise
The Damnation Game
Dressed to Kill
The Edge of Forever
TTLG (I know they played it on past tours, but it would be nice to have it back)

And I'm sure the new album is gonna have some great ones.
