On the Breath of Posseidon :headbang:
The Edge of Forever
The Oddyssey
Orion the Hunter
Smoke and Mirrors
Communion and the Oracle
The Haunting
Through the looking Glass
Church of the Machine
End...
That'd be a very good show I'd say...
wondered why no-one chooses Breath of Posseidon?
when the guitar comes in, it's rocking till the end of the riff...

Is the new album gonna be like a Divine Wings sequal, or prequal, cause the name suggests it? That would be pretty cool.

Ultimate Setlist (in order)

Of Sins and Shadows
Sea of Lies
Out of the Ashes
The Accolade
Pharoah
The Eyes of Medusa
The Witching Hour
The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Candleight Fantasia

Encore

The Accolade (again, if time permits)
Accolade 2 (only if the first is played)

Divine Wings and Rediscovery Pt. 1 and 2 are what i consider the pinnacle of the band's song writing so it would :headbang: to hear them live to close out a show.

I remembered the whole "paradise has begun" line from rediscovery pt2. Is there that stuff in DWoT too?? Can't be bothered checking the lyrics cos i'm not at home atm.

Isnt paradise lost an edgar allan poe thing???

Sea of Lies
Church of the Machine
Egypt
Masquerade
The Edge of Forever
Awakenings
Orion the Hunter
The Accolade
Candlelight Fantasia

encore:

Paradise Lost is a band, too.

they're speaking of a paradise in Rediscovery:

Bow down to me (we will never understand)
Then take my hand and you will see (we'll see...)
You will see paradise (a paradise?)
Of pain and death
Awaiting for you all (we'll decide the future)

but the 'paradise has begun' is from DWoT (part VII)

Looking out on a blue sky
I can see a new world arising
Like a prisoner unbound
I feel the power and the majesty
again

Looking up to the heavens
I can see what I left behind
Beneath the stars, moon and
warm sun
And all I know,
is my paradise has begun ...

The only 3 songs that i think they absolutely need to play live (that i havent seen them do already) are:

Fallen
The Turning
Rediscovery (both parts)

Rediscovery is possibly my favorite SX song atm, i would take that over two over the more overdone short songs any day. Speaking of which, I don't think any of their songs NEED to be taken away, but of the "usuals" i wouldnt mind if they dropped Wicked and King of Terrors

I think SX also eventually should work a few "acoustic" renditions into their setlist. I bet they'd smoke in an unplugged setting.

Songs to omit: Inferno, Wicked, King of Terrors, Evolution.
Must play: The Edge of Forever, Diving Wings, A Winter's Dream 1&2, Whispers

I'd like to see them play something from every album.
Approx. 120 minute set

Sea of Lies
Evolution
Church of the Machine
The Edge of Forever
The Accolade II
Fallen
Communion and the Oracle
The Damnation Game
A Winters Dream PII
Candlelight Fantasia

Rapture or Pain
Wicked
Smoke and Mirrors
Absence of Light
Egypt
The Turning
Masquerade
The Odyssey

First and foremost I want to say I think it is awesome that this question be posed. It not only gives us restless fans somthing to do, but really demonstrates the bands interest in their fans and their opinions. Kudos.

(in chronological order so I can keep myself organized):
1. Damnation Game
2. Of Sins and Shadows
3. Out of the Ashes
4. Accolade I
5. Smoke and Mirrors
6. Church of the Machine
7. In the Dragons Den
8. Through the Looking Glass
9. Fallen
10. Communion and the Oracle
11. Rediscovery Part I/II
12. Accolade II
13. The Odyssey

I have heard quite enough of...

Inferno (either get the timing right on the intro or leave this in the dust)
Evolution (hard for the band to ditch I'm sure, but I've had my fill)
Wicked (never really found this to be that good live in the first place)
Sea of Lies (I feel like this song is only played live because of the middle
section with the tapping...we know MJR can do it by now ;) )
King of Terrors (boring live, and 'to the left and to the right' looks goofy)

And here comes the lengthy rationale on the choices...

Damnation Game - haven't heard anything from the album live yet and this song has tons of energy and cool guitar work that would be awesome live

Of Sins and Shadows - yeah, its a staple live, awesome solo section, and really pleases those quasi-fans who are only there to head bang.

Out of the Ashes - saw it live on one leg of the last tour and it was awesome, gave me a whole new respect for the song

Accolade I - somehow this track seems synonymous with Symphony X

Smoke and Mirrors - perfect live song because of the energy, attitude, melodic break, kick ass solo duel.

Church of the Machine - saw it live on one leg of the last tour and it was the highlight of my night.

In the Dragons Den - the song is fantastic and has yet to be featured live, despite the clamour I see for it on this forum all the time.

Through the Looking Glass - to me, of the Symphony X epics, this one has the most unity and cohesion, and I love seeing X perform epics live.

Fallen - I really don't know how to describe what makes this song so awesome live, but it was my fav the first time I saw them. Plus that whole intro to the solo section is unbelievable.

Communion and the Oracle - One of the most atmospherically effective songs from the band - always brings to mind specific colors and images.

Rediscovery Part I/II - Because these conclude V flawlessly

Accolade II - awesome song and can be paired with accolade I

The Odyssey - epic encore to end it, the song speaks for itself.

Of course I would always be down for V performed in its entirety
