The Top 5 List Thread

Revised Top 5 Dio albums at this time since we are getting close to that poll:

1) Holy Diver
2) The Last in Line
3) Killing the Dragon
4) Dream Evil
5) Master of the Moon

...

6) Lock Up the Wolves
7) Strange Highways
8) Sacred Heart
9) Magica

After #2, it gets really hard to rank them. The only one easy to put dead last is Sacred Heart. Everything from 3-7 could be interchanged depending on the day. This list could change by the time we get to the actual poll. Lock Up the Wolves and Strange Highways are about even but LUtW is probably my favorite of the two if I had to pick one.

Man, I forget Magica exists so I guess by default that is under Sacred Heart. I only remember one track on that album.

I've always thought, given your general taste that you'd rank "In Superior Torment" really highly. I'm actually not huge on the first minute or so of that song even now, but everything that comes after is amazing. I think that romantic waltz-y section fits a lot better when they return to it towards the end. "A land so fucking disgusting!"

Top 5 black metal releases:

1. Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
2. Immortal - Pure Holocaust
3. Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi
4. Macabre Omen - Gods of War - At War
5. Zemial - Face of the Conqueror

I think A Blaze... is destined to remain my utmost favourite at this point. More listens of SDG's North and it might bump Zemial out, that album slayed me.

Got plans to try and focus more on black metal this year, my new year's resolution if you will.

Missing Darkthrone!

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky to Transilvanian Hunger

If Det Som Engang Var wasn’t a full length then, Burzum - Burzum to Filosofem would be towards the top.

Also Morbid Angel - Altars to Covenant. Or Abominations to Blessed if you’d prefer.

Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny to Stained Class

I’m not as big on Soulside Journey as a lot of death metal heads. Good album, but not one of my favourites. I definitely prefer Goatlord. And if the vocals were different I think that would be a more common opinion.

Yeah, Goatlord is a stronger album overall and kinda shows exactly where they would've gone if they had stuck with death metal. Like Left Hand Path, Soulside Journey's biggest problem is that it starts with the best song.

1. Maiden - Killers, Number, Piece
2. Queensryche - Warning, Rage, Operation
3. Destruction - Eternal, Release, Cracked
4. Priest - Sad, Sin, Stained
5. Anacrusis - Reason, Manic, Screams

You guys are lunatics!

Don't get me wrong I like Goatlord a lot, but no way it touches the greatness of Soulside Journey.
