Before I purchased my Mazda3 I went onto Mazda forums as well. Fucking asshats run rampant on those forums

Seriously, WTF is wrong with those people? They make Subaru and Toyota folk look well adjusted by comparison.

How is your 3 treating you? I was going to text you and ask first but I was too busy flooring that shit and haggling over a price.

I drove my bosss's's GTI, from his driveway into his garage at least. I thought about getting one, and it was a close 3rd on my list, but I didn't want to sway away from Japan just yet. We fear change.

lol. I've been reading up on it. It's the least powerful of the hatches but most refined. I guess. Incredible interior, regardless.

haha @ the WRX feeling slow. It has more power than any car I've ever driven. The 3 must really be a beast. It makes me wonder what the 305 hp Ford feels like.

I got my list narrowed down to:
VW GTI
Ford Mustang V6
Mazdaspeed3
Peter North's Nissan
Lurch's Mini
A 1978 Ford Granada

The Mustang GT would be at the top of the list but I can't afford a $30,000 car right now and I'm too impatient to wait until I'm done with grad school to buy something.

- www.mazda3forums.com is pretty funny. it's clearly overrun with young'uns. my fave thread is the one where you show off your new car. considering there are really no options you can choose for the interior of a 3 and only paint colors for the exterior options, it's a lot of uhh and ahhing going on.

- the 3, the base one I had, has a super trigger happy throttle response making it feel very fast off the line. AWD behaves differenty, but that doesn't mean your WRX is slower.

- get a 'Stang ... never thought I'd say this but "Buy American" ... Ford has been making really sweet cars lately. and to get that MPG for a muscle car is pretty amazing.

- The latest WRX goes 0-60 in like 0.3 seconds but it's hideous. I love Subarus but their market appears to be younger people with....I don't know....bad taste? And lesbians. I don't like how they did away with the Legacy wagon leaving only the completely new Outback as their only wagon...and I have no interest in that thing.

- The 'Stang is the obvious value choice and I love RWD. Something about it though. Je ne sais pas.

Guess I should just start test-driving stuff and form opinions from there.

Off road websites are full of rich ex-military types who enjoy nothing more than killing darkies. Any flavour really, although whichever type the US gov't hates the most at any given moment is usually the most popular.

EDIT: D'oh yeah, the WRX wasn't "slow" but that was the first time I sat in it and noticed a distinct lack of Whoa Baby. Or something.

I really like the look of the 2011 GTI and even GOLF (there is a dude around my office that just scored a GLOF TDI in a pretty cool blue color and it looks ace).

and the cloth/burlap seats of the GTI are awesome.

but tbh, VWs have this whole hipster vibe about them (although my understanding is that a hipster wouldn't necessarily be able to afford one, so I'm a little confused). If you tell me they are for professional adults, then you'll make me happy.

It's treating me awesomely actually. Very happy with it. While the city mileage isn't too hot, it rocks it on the highway. Too bad I don't drive the freeways anymore since being unemployed.

The only everpresenthipstercarbullshit I see out here is with Honda and lifted trucks. It's been that way for eons. Too bad about Honda, since they have always made awesome cars. I don't see nearly the immense quantity of lifted trucks since gas spiked a few years ago though. Good.

Aurel, tell me about your Mini. Not your new one (Clubman?) but your original one from a few years back. Was it slow as fuck? And if it was, did it at least "feel" fast? The Miata was pretty slow but it "felt" fast, mainly because it handled like crazy and then there was the issue of having no top. Can real human beings fit in the back seats? Like if I needed to put the kid seats back there in a pinch, is it possible? What breaks on them? And how often?

wtf, it was great. best car I ever owned. had its quirks but it was weird minor stuff and was covered under warranty.
in the 4 years I owned it I did not pay 1 cent for anything on it. nada. everything was covered.

I had the base Cooper and while slow for some, part of its charm is working up to speed.
The Cooper S is pretty awesome though power wise and super tossable.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying to score a 2006 model with a Supercharger. Last year for the Supercharger S (the new ones are Turbo) All the bugs were gone.

Go test drive one you hoser. You can put the kids in through the hatch. Several owners do kids love it.

So what makes the supercharged MINI better than the turbo ones? I always thought supercharging a small engine was a bad idea, but I've only ever owned turbos.
