On your mark....get set....GO!

I am American (23 male) and I have lived in London on two different occasions, spending the better part of a year there. I have travelled to Spain, Italy four times, France, Austria, Prague, Ireland, Germany and Greece. I am home now, but I can safely say I wont be here for long. The United States is no longer a great country. The violence, the corporatization of EVERYTHING, the money driven urge for instant gratification and the accumulation of property, the piss poor quality of our produce, and our ignorance have made my mind up for me. Plus European woman are one thousand times smarter, more fun and ten thousand times more beautiful than American women. And don't even get me started on America's current foreign affairs policies.

Americans live to work; Europeans work to live. There is more to life than making money.

for further indepth information on this subject, Jeremy Rifkin's masterful work "The European Dream' is a fantastic read.

After re-reading what I just wrote it appears as though I sound completely anti-American... I do feel there are good things about this country and I do not HATE America. There are also things about European countries that I dislike. I just think we're a bad model for a world leading nation. I believe given the current circumstances in the world the EU would be far better suited to lead us into the next 100 years of existence.

What are your opinions? (Please dont reply if you have never travelled abroad.) I expect most Europeans to agree with me, but I am curious if there are any Americans who share my view.

I'm also an American and I agree with you 100%. I love what America SHOULD be and I hate the neocon Christo-fascist corporatists that have taken over.

Is it me, or does this post have absolutely NO relevance to Opeth?

Bullshit. The EU is horsecrap.

That being said, there are many beautiful and great countries in Europe.

There's a difference between the EU and Europe.

I'm no fan of America either.

After all, I am a socialist. It's my job to hate everything and everyone :tickled:

nobody cares about what anyone here thinks about any country...if you dont like america, move out like the first guy....everybody has to be a fuckin politician, just listen to opeth and talk about opeth or shut up

If I remember correctly, there's a topic sitting near the middle of the Opeth page that says "I'm hungry." Unless a member of Opeth is spoonfeeding the person who made said thread, I don't see the relation to Opeth.

I put this here because everyone knows this is the most (or one of the most) popular forums on this bb and I want as many people to read/reply to this as possible.

Why do you think the EU is horsecrap? you dont have to write a thesis for a reply, just summarize your reasons, if you would please, when you have the time.

Ok, shut up with your "love it or leave it" bullshit, its called freedom of speech, last time I checked it's perfectly normal and healthy to criticise the country you live in. You can't improve without criticism

isnt one of the rules of the forum that the thread has to be opeth related or at least have something to do with music? im not gonna go to a michael moore forum looking for interesting opeth threads... take it somewhere else

Oh yeah, just because I dislike the current administration means I bow down to Michael Moore. Right.

alls im sayin (hopefully moonlapse agrees) that this thread is irrelevant in this forum and its only going to cause pointless arguments...this forum is cluttered with too much dumb bullshit

Hell a thread like this is better than another 'fave opeth' or 'whats the funniest opeth moment' thread, they're just fucking shite. Lets have some debating, and everyone can ignore shadow for being a rule-crazy commie nazi.

me three, and I am considering a permanent life in Europe, because most "Americans" are polar opposite to everything I stand for.

i graduated from an american high school here in istanbul so i feel i can say a few words about the american culture myself (i also have to point out i have never been to the states but have been to different parts of europe many times).

i prefer to refrain from going into politics so i'll just say i dont like america's foreign policies and leave it at that.

but as for american people, either i have always come across the warmest, the most friendly of them all in my entire life OR they all are! in many cities of europe, and here in istanbul, i have made many american friends (ladies included) which i had wonderful times with.

i can surely say the same thing for europeans (though i havent met any fins or say danish people in real life, so i cant make a judgement there) but i dont know...americans have always seemed just a little bit warmer =)

and on the topic of girls: i have always observed that men tend to bash their country's female population and look up to other nations'. funny thing

dont get me wrong, i'll say the same thing about mine =))

i'm not pleased with the general male population either :tickled:

I should have been born European.
