The very best of 2005: your top 10 list

Tough to choose 10, this year was unbelievable, so here are 20:
the 10
Sieges Even - The Art Of Navigating By The Stars
Shadow Gallery - Room V
Spiritual Beggars - Demons
Isole - Forevermore
Witchcraft - Firewood
November's Doom - The Pale Haunt Departure
Thee Plague Of Gentlemen - Primula Pestis
High On Fire - Blessed Black Wings
Confessor - Unraveled
Cathedral - The Garden Of Unearthly Delights

and the other 10:

Redemption - The Fullness Of Time
Circulus - The Lick On The Tip Of An Envelope Yet To Be Sent
Reverend Bizarre - Crush the Insects
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Ellipsis - From Beyond Thematics
Veni Domine - IIII: The Album Of Labour
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Moonsorrow - Verisakeet
Biomechanical - The Empires Of The Worlds
Burning Saviours - s/t

Not sure yet, but in the running are Pelican, Meshuggah, Crowpath, Confessor, Witchcraft, Nevermore, Yob, and a whole bunch more. I need to revisit some albums and pare down the list.

My favorites thus far:

KAYO DOT - Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue
NOKTURNAL MORTUM - Weltanschaaung
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE - Feels
SIGUR ROS - Takk
NEVERMORE - This Godless Endeavor

Still need to hear the new AKERCOCKE. Badly. (Oh wait, Chromoplasticity is about to send it to me, yay!) And EARTH.

KAYO DOT's official release daite is 2006.

I've only got these so far.

1. MANILLA ROAD - Gates Of Fire
2. DANTESCO - De La Mano De La Muerte
3. NEVERMORE - This Godless Endeavor
4. SLOUGH FEG - Atavism
5. DRUDKH - The Swan Road
6. JOTENHEIM - S/T
7. PRIMORDIAL - The Gathering Wilderness
8. GOAT HORN - Threatening Force

I need to get more Black Metal up there. I need to get Negurã Bunget - Inarborat Kosmos Dammit!

well if Heralding the Fireblade isn't the best stuff Falkenbach has released since en their medh, you can take a dump on my chest.

Damn this is good stuff. more black metal is just what he needed to bring back the spirit in this band

for me this year has had a decent number of good albums, but only a few really great albums...in the interest of being different, i'll mention a couple albums i haven't seen yet:

kylesa - to walk a middle course
really, really fucking good doom/crust, nobody here seems to buy it though

the works - s/t
old-school-style swedish psych-prog...sound kinda like the beatles in places but that hardly does them justice

lightning bolt - hypermagic mountain
crazy 2-piece noise-rock band (bass/drums), pretty much beyond description, in a good way o_O

jello biafra with the melvins - sieg howdy!
i can only say it so many times

i also thoroughly enjoyed opeth, nile, moonsorrow, taake, primordial, naglfar, drudkh, ballast, qotsa, heathen.....many more too

Good to know, I can't wait to get my copy so I can give it a proper listen.

I reviewed this album for Metalreview. I agree--good stuff. Although it won't make my list.
