The Video Game Thread

I have been playing Skyrim off and on since last November. Downloaded Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire. Dragonborn was cool, but I am glad I bought it for half price. I am about half way through Dawnguard. The graphics are great and I enjoy the improved combat and the unique dungeons, but there is something missing from this game. In some ways I miss Oblivion. The quests were better and the writing/story lines made the game seem more real in some ways.

I am considering starting another character on Fallout 3, but I have played that game too much already, and I still haven't touched the most recent Assassin's Creed.

Here is a question for other gamers: What game have you spent the most time playing?

For me it is probably Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. Over a few years I must have completed that game over a dozen times.

I got all the Skyrim DLC for half price because it was half off for the first week it was on PSN. They were good, but nothing I'd go back and play again. Fallout 3 and New Vegas had better ones.

Other than that, BioShock Infinite is fucking amazing and Injustice is alot of fun and has a shit ton of like comic easter eggs hidden throughout it.

Oh, and lots of DayZ.

Final Fantasy VII Update: Just got to Junon. Everyone has both of their Level 2 Limit Breaks (except for Tifa/Red XIII who only have one, and Yuffie who hasn't acquired Lv.2 yet) and the perfect run is going smoothly for now.

Snatcher Update: Completed. About four times in the past three days. Love it.

Policenauts Update: Started playing last night and I've literally just got up to Act 2, thank fuck for save points at the end of each act. Such an amazing game, but there's a bit of buffer with sound and video once in a while

As far as games go, I just play Fire Emblem on an emulator. I was doing so well, grinding Amelia and Ross, and then finding out that because I DIDN'T save all the villagers in chapter 6, I won't be able to get the Orion's Bow which I need to upgrade Neimi. Since she has a full support with Colm, can critical hit a lot and dodge a ton of attacks, being unable to upgrader without the use of a master seal is fucking INFURIATING. So I've started over and continued playing again...

Policenauts Update: Got up to the AMM in Act 2 to meet Nine Stars a second time, when suddenly... ahhh, my old nemesis appears. It's been a long time, 'lightgun-sections-using-a-toucpad-and-keyboard'...

...Yeah, fuck this game hahaha. I love it, but Snatcher used the 3x3 grid for shooting and this doesn't. It's completely free, which makes accuracy a total bitch.

Screw babying Neimi. I usually dont use archers in that game anyway

Go right ahead man. Magic users just outclass archers in every way in that game and you get two really good ones in early game (Lute and Artur).

Just never do Thief-less runs. You will regret that decision.

Finished the Dawnguard main quest and I am now ready to put Skyrim away for a long while. I enjoyed it a lot more than Dragonborn. When I do another playthrough I will have to ally with vampires and see how that goes.

I'm thinking of starting up Dante's Inferno.

Dante's Inferno was a decent game. Like Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance, I've only played through it once because I just hate that genre, but I enjoyed it nontheless.

I've been playing a ton of Injustice : Gods Among Us. That game is awesome. I played online once. I went 1-4. Spammers. Every fucking match. Never again.

FFVII Update: Just got to Temple of the Ancients. Everyone has all their Lv3 limits bar Vincent and Cait Sith who're still Lv.1 and Aerith who has Lv.4. Going great, average character levels at 40+

FFVII UPDATE: Finished Disc 2. Well, I finished it quite a while ago... I just forgot haha.

On a separate note, some friends and I will be doing a series of playthroughs on Youtube in the next couple of months - I say a couple of months because we need to buy headsets, USB hubs, USB controllers/adapters for controllers etc. to make it possible, but it's going to be fucking great. Got a list of about 120+ games for the Playstation, SNES, MegaDrive, Mega CD, Neo Geo, Arcade and Nintendo 64 to get through so we're not exactly going to run out of games hahaha.

We really, REALLY wanted to do some PS2 playthroughs too but sadly, sixth generation emulation is a complete bitch that requires all of the world's supercomputers to run efficiently and recording the TV visual and audio alongside live commentary is pretty much impossible. Overdubbing it IS an option, but it's just not the same. SO we're having to nix that for now :( Shame. First up will probably be Donkey Kong Country or Metal Slug!

We wanted to throw something like Civilisation or Populous on the list, but it'd make for a pretty boring video. Fuck it, here's the list we have to choose from - I think you can guess what we're going for.

...Yeah, so my friends and I have enough to keep us busy for a good couple of years at least since most of those will probably have a minimum of five to ten videos each.

Also, inb4 DURRR PIRACY etc. because despite using ROMs and emulators for the recordings, between us we do own all of these from what I know (maybe except half the Megaman games, but shhhh)

Whats up with the difficulty on some games? I don't claim to be the best video gamer in the world, but I have noticed on a few games that once you beat the game your next play through is significantly more difficult even if it is on the same difficulty setting.

Played some Super Street Fighter IV on Medium difficulty last week and I breezed through everyone with Ryu. Tried playing again yesterday and I got my ass kicked no matter who I used. Ended up turning off after about 40 minutes but before a rage quit.

I notice the exact opposite actually. Unless we're talking about Demon's/Dark Souls.

Amnesia : The Dark Descent is a fantastic game. Probably the scariest game I've ever played as well.

videogamena.me

This is a video game name generator. It makes a random video game name. I find it to be absolutely hilarious. Post what some of your results are. Mine included :

Educational Banjo Knights
Flamboyant Equestrian Machine
Incomprehensible Nazi Roundup
Sonic's Bong Odyssey
Viking Cart Deluxe
Endless Amish Deathmatch

Here's what I got.

Final Fantasy Motorcycle Base
Fruity Dance For Kids
A Boy and His Battleship Smuggler
Queen of the BMX Returns
Flamboyant Plunger Interactive

OKAY, stopping right there.

Flamboyant Equestrian Machine
Incomprehensible Nazi Roundup
Sonic's Bong Odyssey
Endless Amish Deathmatch

All of those I like, but... Sonic Bong Odyssey... fucking...

A Boy & His Battleship Smuggler sounds like the best game ever.

I recently got given a copy of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks which I completed with Liu Kang this morning. It's.... alright. It's better than Sub-Zero Mythologies and it makes Special Forces look worse than it already is, but it's horribly unrefined to the point of ruination in places. The difficulty is all over the bloody place and the amount of backtracking is unforgivable, but it's fun enough. I think the biggest downside is that it was made with co-op play in mind, and you can only unlock everything in the game by playing co-op at least twice so... yeah.
