I'm not saying science is speculation. I'm saying it annoys me when scientists speculate something and websites (like cracked) present that as, "science says this." There is a lot of this in articles about evopsych, since the field is pretty much speculation.

The scientific process is not speculation (minus hypothesizing, I guess), but scientists speculate things all the time. It helps find new directions for research. I find it problematic when these speculations are taken as fact simply because they came from a scientist.

I have much more disdain for professional intellectuals than I do the speculations of scientists myself.
Just because some asshole is gifted in one field we're expected to listen to their opinions on totally unrelated subjects.

I agree with you. Especially in fields like psychology and evolutionary anthropology. They get so loaded because the people in these fields tend to have social agendas of their own that they try to slip into their model of human nature, and it gets worse when journalists use THAT to push their own agenda.

In psych class we watched this thing about beauty standards and the media that said we're influenced by them whether or not we want to be. Except for the fact I find average women more attractive than most models because I'm not into super tall lanky chicks that all look the same and no amount of advertising will change that.

My patience is really thin sometimes.

So, I lead the debate team for my school now. And we have a debate room where the students work on their arguments and stuff. Their trophies are posted in there and it's just the debate room. The teacher who use to do it retired (he's been retired for months now) so now I do it.

So this after school teacher (basically a teaching artist not really a teacher she works in the after school program) tries to come in my room with her kids to use the computers (there's two) for their program. I told her no because my students need it to finish their arguments for the tournament and that this room is the debate room. She tries to argue with me (the room is tiny literally 5 students max) and she's not even a teacher. I had to break it down to her. She didn't have a key to the room therefore she's not authorized to it. Plain and simple. Didn't mean to be rude but I told her to look at the signs and the room. It's the debate room and this is where we meet every single Tuesday since September. If she needs a room or computers she should've spoken to the tech guy to supply her and my principal for a room for her activity.


I swear people really try me sometimes. My students are rude and we're literally telling her to fuck off (in those exact words). I corrected them but tbh I didn't want to because who the fuck is she to come and try to de-bow their room? Get the fuck out.
