The Billiards Thread

I enjoy playing pool and snooker, but I never watch them played professionally.

The only sport I actively watch and keep up with is tennis, and I'm sure I'll be judged for that as it's seen as a posh sport or whatever.

"Normal pub pool" for me too. I'm kind of an idiot savant with pool, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing or any of the proper lingo, but I always do pretty well against more learn'd opponents. Would like to get better.

Can we talk about Golden Tee here too? Because in a bar it's kinda my main shit.

I cant really beat people who are really good pool shooters, but I can beat people who are slightly better than me because I have a knack for leaving them the worst shots, while setting my balls up for more manageable shots. I do enjoy playing, but tbh it kind of gets old for me after a couple of games.

ronnie actually did enter a few pool tournaments, did he not?

this was probs my favourite match of the latest world darts champs. aging semi-washed up legend vs. the world number 1/biggest phenomenon since phil taylor. i couldn't sleep afterwards i was so excited haha.

Damn, that was so intense I wound up watching the entire thing. I never thought watching darts could be so exciting.

Nah, I enjoy watching tennis as well, I never expected Djokovic to rise to the top when he used to be such an emotional player (well I guess he still kind of is). I love watching him break rackets in frustration.

I remember earlier in his career when he used to get in a lot of 5 set matches and he was unable to close them out due to fatigue or injury. It was surprising for me that he increased his fitness levels so much that he could compete at the top level. These days I think he could play a longer match than just about anyone else on the tour.

djokovic is absolutely terrifying over the past 18 months or so. might be the best run anyone's ever had, statistically speaking, although granted it's not the strongest era right now with fed and esp. nadal in decline. i just hope del potro can get some kind of fitness together, he always seemed destined to make it a 'big 5' before his chronic wrist problem. i saw him destroy federer live at the world tour finals in '09 and thought jesus christ this guy is insane, but twasn't to be.

Del Potro had one of the best matches I've ever seen vs Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2013 semi-final. Apparently we've derailed this thread into tennis discussion now.

I like to watch the tennis and have done since I was a kid. one of the best matches I saw was Sampras vs Courier at the Australian Open and Sampras' coach had just had a stroke and been flown back to he states. He was crying as he played and almost lost but someone yelled to him to do it for his coach and he somehow turned around and won in five sets. It went well into the hours of the next morning.

It's a shame to see Federer not playing as well as he used to, he was probably my fave player to watch at his peak.

It should be called "The bourgeois sports thread" if it gets made.

I would like to see Federer win another Grandslam before his retirement but it doesn't look very likely, especially given Djokovic's form.

the solution to that is joining in with the themed mixtape game! it will reawaken your passions for aural pleasure.

btw i posted my fav movies of 2015 list on rym if you missed it

I probably should get in on that themed mixtape game nonsense.

I did see it. There are a few blind spots in the list I need to check out, but I was glad to see that you wrestled with Anomalisa, loved the new Mad Max, and Blackhat. It was only a couple of months ago that I came to realize that Michael Mann is a genius, and I can't stop watching his films.

i love this guy lol. so much hand-wringing over how he's terrible for the sport and cheating etc, i think he's funny as fuck. i hardly think darts can claim to be above this kind of WWE grade nonsense.
