The Photography Thread

At the Photoshop World convention I went to a photojournalism presentation, and the presenter was a combat photog for like 10=15 or so years, and she did stuff from photos in combat situations, portraits of generals, photographing vehicles etc.

Here's the website (http://www.f8pj.com/), just click Stacy and check out her portfolio, lotsa cool stuff.

I was linked one story a while ago about a combat photog in the field with a squad and as they were walking he stepped on a mine. So what did he do? Started taking pictures of the aftermath of the explosion as the soldiers were dragging his now legless body away from the scene to prep him for evac.

Hard-fucking-care.

His statement about why he continued to shoot despite his obvious condition was actually pretty damn inspirational. I'll see if I can dig it up.

...bump.

So what's everyone been up to in the photography realm?

Not too much went on in December for me, except I did my first wedding which turned out well, did it for free, but will sell a couple hundred worth of prints.

I'm finally a staff photog for the Rebel Yell (before I was freelance), and did my first editorial shoot for NPR's culture/lifestyle magazine the Desert Companion. Doing other stuff here and there too. Nice to actually be making some money off of my work finally!

All I've been doing is macro shots and some portraits here and there. Hell, I'm pretty sure you've already seen them (especially considering the last portrait I did is my default facebook pic right now)

Haha yeah. I guess you and I are the main people that populate this thread, and it's no surprise that we usually keep up to date with each other too but W/E.

OTHER PEOPLE GET IN THIS THREAD DAMMIT.

You can always do the San Diego zoo, but it'll be a pain in the ass to get shots of big cats or gorillas. The cats because they like to hide during the day, and the gorillas because there are just too many people crowding around their enclosure.

The bird enclosure is really nice, but make sure your shit is weather-sealed if you plan on staying in it for a bit because it's humid as all hell. But you can get really close to the birds.

I dunno when but I'll definitely have to make it out there sometime. Maybe next summer when I go down to SD for Comic Con. I did go to the zoo in Chicago though, which basically involved a bunch of depressed primates (and one that looked totally stoned) and a rude giraffe:

^ those animals have some really funny expressions.

I'll be trying to get some nice snowy mountain scapes next week... hope there'll still be some snow left, though.

I took this at Christmas with my new (now stolen) SLR. I've got no idea what I'm doing yet but I love the composition of this one.

A couple of others:
