TOP 10 GUITARISTS

NOpe, don't have Mythology... Greg Howe is awesome!!! I wouldn't have minded one bit if he had played on the new Planet X, though I still reckon Tony MacAlpine was the best...

Does anyone else on this forum love Ron Jarzombek??? I don't think I've seen him in anyone elses top 10!!! Yet he's an unbelievable guitarist... :worship:

Watchtower and Ink Complete ftw :kickass:

Oh and thanks 4 reminding me about Derek's solo work....I still need to check that out

1. MICHAEL ROMEO (undisputed champion of the guitar world)

Undisputed??? I'd dispute that...

IA is THE Man!
(and an unbelievably cool dude!)

J-Dubya

Yeah, I gathered that from the video... I'd love to go along to one of his freak guitar camp thingos... :headbang:

If they (Freak Kitchen) ever come to Oz, I'd HIGHLY suggest you try to get there to see them, or if IA is solo doing a "clinic" GO! FGC would rock, but is out of my budget for the next year or so. They really are some of the coolest people to walk the face of this planet, and it was a life altering event to get to meet & hang out with them in Atlanta last year. Can't wait for their return here in October! :headbang:

J-Dubya - Freak Kitchen fanboi for LOTS of years

Don't worry, if they (Freak Kitchen) or just IA doing a clinic I'd be there...

Paul Gilbert is apparently gonna be doing some clinics here in Oz, so I'll definately check that out, hope he doesn't miss Adelaide...

1. Paul Gilbert
2. Marty Friedman
3. Gus G
4. Alexi Laiho
5. Slash
6. Jimi Hendrix
7. Anchang and Circuit V Panther
8. Joe Satriani
9. Billy Gibbons
10. Christophe Godin

Undisputed??? I'd dispute that...

Everybody has their own opinion on this (who is the "greatest") so don't take me too seriously when I say Romeo is the "undisputed" best in the world. He is better than Petrucci though! (Oh boy, now I've gone and said it!):heh:

My list was:
1. MICHAEL ROMEO (undisputed champion of the guitar world)
2. Kiko Loureiro (I've seen some sick sick live stuff from him, fantastico)
3. Alexi Lahio (a true innovator before he became a drunk)
4. Jari Maenpaa (Man does Ensiferum miss him, best solos and sweeps, period)
5. John Petrucci (Romeo rocks him, and DT fans hate it!)
6. Marty Friedman (Master of note choices, Rust in Peace is my favorite)
7. Jason Becker (Along with Marty, Cacophony was the best duo ever)
8. Eddie Van Halen (Brought tapping into the mainstream, Hot for Teacher!!)
9. Jeff Waters (Where is he on everybody's lists? Plays with true soul)
10. Yngwie Malmsteen (He'd be higher up if he wasn't so full of himself)

Now you've put your foot in it. To a John Petrucci fanboi such as myself, that is a direct challenge which must swiftly put down, and made an example of... :heh:

Seriously though, I used to think they were nearly on a par, until I heard the Liquid Tension Experiment albums... My respect for Petrucci skyrocketed when I heard those masterpieces... :worship: NONE of Michael Romeo's playing, although excellent, compares to Petrucci's guitar work on the LTE albums IMO...

Have you ever seen both of these bands live? I have, and that is EXACTLY why I think Romeo owns Petrucci. I saw them both at Gigantour, and although they both rocked, Romeo did it with such incredible ease. Petrucci struggled during some of their newer songs like Panic Attack (Awesome song tho). Go to you tube and watch Romeo's guitar chapter, he definitely taps faster than any guitarist in the world (Sea of lies). Then search Church of the Machine live in Montreal and watch his first solo, he taps faster than everyone you can name. He and Petrucci are probably on par as far as picking, so I won't go there. I also like Romeo's songwriting way better, I find myself having to fast forward through DT stuff all the time (usually because LaBrie is the worst singer, Russel takes a chunky dump on him). Look, I love both of them...but Romeo is the man.

I don't doubt that MJR taps faster, and probably sweeps faster, and JP definately picks faster, but I'm not talking about JP's playing in DT necessarily... Seriously, you should look up Liquid Tension Experiment on youtube, and watch their performances which are numbered 2,3,4,5 & 6.

Anyways, I didn't mean to cause the inevitable MJR v JP argument, I was just pulling you up on that 'undisputed' statement for fun... I'm content for you to hold your opinion, and I'll hold mine. I have massive respect for MJR, but JP for me... :D
