:kickass::kickass: Tales is so fucking awesome. Big Gen has some great songs too.

Yeah...It doesn't matter over the years when, or what time of year I listen to them, each of those albums always, instantly, pull me into past atmospheres/moods that I experienced the first time I listened to them. TFTO has such a dark (to me) moody, cosmic feel to me. And BG- on about 5 songs, has always given me this nice cold feeling...hard to put into words...I'm sure rubbish to some people, oh well!

Also, way to many prog albums on these lists.

Explosions In The Sky - Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever
Explosions In The Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone

Rush - 2112
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

I think Idiot Pilot have lost there way a bit with the new album, but I always suspected that would be the case considering the type of fanbase they've developed. Nonetheless if you want some atmospheric electro indie punk/rock, then 'Strange We Should Meet Here' is the way to go. It's mainly clean vocals with screamed vocals every now and again and there is loads of variety. A rare 'every track is memorable' kind of album.

Neutral Milk Hotel are excellent, but I'd only bother with 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea', their other stuff while decent isn't perticularly remarkable. Mainly indie/folk, though it doesn't follow any genre particularly rigidly. It's one of the few albums with lyrics I actually like.

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As Love
King Crimson - In The Court Of King Crimson
The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium or Frances The Mute (can't decide between them)
Buena Vista Social Club - Self-titled
Boston - Self-titled
Steve Vai - Passion and Warfare
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command

this is really hard for me because so many of mine are hardrock, a few pop metal or by metal bands after they matured and added other elements.

my important non metal/hardrock albums

Hendrix - Axis - Bold as Love (has a few borderline "heavy" elements)
Steeley Dan - Katy Lied
Steeley Dan - Royal Scam
Dixie Dregs - Freefall
Billy Cobham - Spectrum
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
Jean Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messenger
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
Glenn Miller - dont have any but the dudes music was important
Joe Pass - same deal as Miller
