Top non-metal albums ever

God so many...
Yes-Close To The Edge
Van Halen-Van Halen
Rush-2112
Stevie Ray Vaughan-Texas Flood
Santana-Discography
Pink Floyd-Discography
Led Zep-Early stuff
Guess Who-These Eyes
Genesis-Invisible Touch

This is just what came to mind immediately.

Genesis have so many albums better than Invisible Touch. Their stuff with Peter Gabriel is infinitely better than the Phil Collins crap. The only good album they released after Wind and Wuthering was their greatest hits of catchy 80s tunes. Not too impressive.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
dredg - Catch Without Arms
Our Lady Peace - Spiritual Machines
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Placebo - self-titled
Rilo Kiley - The Execution of All Things
Atmosphere - God Loves Ugly
Cursive - The Ugly Organ

Yeah, kind of limited. I'm thinking of saying Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation but I've only recently begun to listen to them so I feel it'd be premature to do that.

^ kudos for including Joanna Newsome

Godspeed You!Black Emperor-Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and the Tra La La Choir+Band-"This Is Our Punk Rock" Thee Rusted Satellites Gather and Sing

Sufjan Stevens: Sufjan Stevens Invites you to Come on Feel the Illionise
Mono-You Are There
Explosions in the Sky-The Earth is not a cold dead place
The National-Alligator
Jeff Buckley-Grace

Van der Graaf Generator- Godbluff
Van der Graaf Generator-Pawn Hearts
Camel- Mirage
and recently to:
Magma-Mekhanik Destruktiw Kommandoh(exceeded all my expectations)

Why is everyone ruining the thread with post 19th century garbage? The only thing warranting any mention in a 'non-metal' thread is classical.

There's plenty of good non-classical, non-metal music even if not much of it has been mentioned here, you pompous ass.

So then, in your opinion, Prog rock, jazz, ambient, folk music, etc. are not worthy of exploration?
Hmm, looks like I'll be stuck listening to this "post 19th century garbage" for a long time to come, regardless.

I'd sooner die than call classical the best non-metal music. Worst is more like it. Just because it's fancy and high class, people don't have the nerve to call it shit. It's just another music style like all the others, it should get no more or less respect. I don't mind people loving it and respecting it, but I'm going to put my 2 cents in about it too. Classical is interesting from an intstrumental standpoint but it's the most faceless and mindless of music styles.

Eh, anyway, my picks for best non-metal albums would be...

1. Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
2. Nirvana - With The Lights Out
3. Bob Dylan - s/t
4. Led Zeppelin - s/t
5. Neil Young - Time Fades Away
6. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Echo
7. The Doors - LA Woman
8. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
9. Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-e'
10. Alice In Chains - Dirt

Yes I included some compilations on there, but to me the best is the best. I think you can put together a compi to sometimes work better than the original albums did. I could have easily gone with 4 or 5 albums from the best artists but it's a lot more interesting if I restrict it to one album per artist. (Honorable mentions: Regina Spektor - Begin To Hope, Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis Bold As Love, Jake Holmes - The Above Ground Sound Of, Robert Johnson - Complete Recordings, King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King)

peace & love

Classical is good music but its got no groove. Lack of groove could easily make classical garbage.

Alternative rock speaks to me a lot more than classical does, so I'm not going to inflate my e-dick with shit I don't listen to often.

@Seanindarkness :D Thanks, I absolutely love her work. Ys is probably one of my favorite albums ever regardless of genre to be honest.

No I mean just that I can't understand how anyone can have a top album list made completely out of only two genres of music. I just don't get how anyone can like a style of music THAT much. I've got alt. rock, folk, rap, metal, indie rock, etc. making appearances in my top.

So now all everyone needs to do is figure out why they like any of the music from their own time period..... rather than that of the generations lying in the graveyards...... dut da da
