The new album is amazing, I just can´t wait to have my pre-order, I want to hear this masterpiece full sounding.

The video is just great. I think is their best, taking Lost To Apathy out of the first place.

Mikael´s voice sounds really mean and evil on this one, like my brother-in-law and friend said to me last saturday "Man, this guys sound really, really angry on this one... something bad must have happened to them.. like tax raises or something like that".... yeah I know, he´s kind of weird...

This makes me really sad.

On the bright side, Mikael's vocals are still ridiculously good. I just wished the caliber of the music matched his performance.

Now i understand what Dt has been angry about ever since Damage done. Seriously, those are a bitch, what with income not increasing by half as much as taxes and all.

Shame about the video. There are some insteresting touches here and there, but overall i enjoyed the thing a lot less than, say, Monochromatic stains or Misery's crown. Those two are, in my asshole (er, opinion), the best two DT has made (well, ok, and the Lego one, and yes, i do realize that neither the Lego one nor Monochromatic was actually made by the band, but they still count).

I'm not as extreme as plintus, but if you used to love DT and feel this way about the new material you might consider the option that your taste has changed.

I know I'm never going to feel the same way about a new DT record as I felt back when Projector came out, but this tells more about me than it does about their music. If I try to be objective I come to the conclusion that there is nothing less inspired, original or interesting in the new songs, but my reaction to music has changed a lot since the nineties. This is an altogether different topic and maybe deserves its own thread: I was just putting it out there in case it maybe helped you figure out if it's the same for you.

I can understand why u wouldnt like the new material, but uninspired? Music and objectiveness cant be combined in general but i would like to claim here that the songs cant be entitled uninspired, no discussion. I think u can tell from every riff and drumbeat that they put their souls into this. It sounds more serious, important, intense and darker than ever. I think the second half of character (not includning my negation) is closer to the term uninspired in my opinion.


Has anybody read the Close-up review and souncheck of the album?? would be nice to get just a short summary!

I was pleasantly surprised when I received the album with the mail today. I was expecting to receive it next week, hurray for release dates getting pushed forwards.

Listening to it for the second time now and based on the first listen I can already say that they did it again, I'll need to listen to it a couple more times. But I think it's safe to say 'We Are the Void' is up there with 'The Gallery', 'Fiction' and 'Damage Done'

"Shadow In Our Blood", "The Fatalist", "Arkhangelsk", "Her Silent Language" and "Iridium" are already stuck in my head. And I'm pretty sure that will happen with the other songs too.

I'm also liking the two bonus tracks.

DT has changed their sound again and it contrasts more with the scene now than ever before, I think, and that's what will make this record stick and still be important at the end of the year too. Take into account what we as fans know about the band as well and this cannot be seen as uninspired and drab. Tastes change, however, and that's perfectly acceptable. I can say with confidence that no one here (should) judge based on subjective tastes changing; unless flamewarzzzz start (so to speak).

The Netherlands, I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago via a Dutch mail-order that specialises in metal and rock.

EDIT: quick comment after 3 listens: if "The Fatalist" doesn't turn into a live-classic I will eat up my Dark Tranquillity-flag.

Indeed, tastes do change. However, I hardly believe that the album is uninspired. Judging from the three songs that have been released to the general public, it seems much better than Fiction. And that, friends, is saying a lot.

Hey that's great! I ordered it from Nuclear DE, along with Universal. So since apparently the stuff is arriving a week before release… oh mein Cthulhu, I might be getting it before Martius (probably at the beginning of, actually). And I thought I'd have to wait three more weeks! Brilliant!!!!

I love the new material. And for me, "new" starts at Projector because I was a fan after The Gallery and before The Mind's I. I've loved every album since The Gallery, to a greater or lesser degree. My top three favorites are The Gallery, The Mind's I, and Fiction, in that order. I can still remember being blown away by the furious melodicism of "Punish My Heaven" the first time I listened to The Gallery.

Obviously my tastes have changed since 1996/97 - I listen to a lot of music that almost everyone here hates - but the songs I've heard from WATV are underwhelming at best and tedious at worst for me personally.

Evolution and change is the lifeblood of any talented group of musicians, and DT is no different. When Projector came out, some fans "disowned" DT, but a majority liked the new, fresh direction, including myself. I'm not "disowning" DT or accusing them of selling out, although I see some people comparing them to In Flames. (To be fair, we all know In Flames was going down hill once Stanne left the band )

I just don't find the new material awe-inspiring, breathtaking, amazing, ingenious, or even interesting, which is how all of their material since Skydancer struck me. I really never thought that would happen (or could happen), but I'm not going to lie to myself and make myself like music that I don't actually like.

I'm a fan, not a Stan.

At some point down the road, I may listen to the entire album so I can write a review for Amazon, but I'm in no rush to be disappointed.

Also, I think La Roque sounds a lot like Lars Urlich on the downloading debate, and Selloutica makes me want to uke:

I have only heard the tracks from myspace and the video but I felt that the song-writing was far from uninspired.
I mean, if you would say that Damage Done, Character and Fiction were uninspired.. then I could at least understand what you mean.. the huge change in direction from the Mind's I to Projector was pretty huge. Then again with Haven came a pretty big change in song-writing and sound. Then the evolution slowed down a lot for three albums. I suppose it's safe to say that they have found their sound now.. with the sole exception of Inside the Particle Storm (at least IMO) they have stuck with that sound.
Now, as I mentioned earlier.. I haven't heard the whole album yet.. but just judging from the video track I think DT have made the biggest change in song-writing since Haven. Maybe when I hear the rest of the album I will agree that it's completely uninspired and boring.. maybe I won't. Probably not. I'm a Stan, not a Fan.

While you're already talking about new songs I'm gonna ask you a question about an existing MySpace-songs. First of all - "Dream Oblivion". I know that lyrics is a thing for one to interpret in his own way. But still "Dream Oblivion" lyrics put me to a mind that they're about addiction. I'm not talking about drugs or alcohol. Does anybody have any ideas?



And about "The Fatalist". I haven't heard the entire song but this Facebook piece off the studio made me think it was modern-oriented song like "Icipher"
PS: I like "Icipher" but I'll be pretty happy to eat my words if I get a chance to

OK, but my question is: Have you heard the entire album? If you haven't done so, you can't really say that it's uninspired and all that.
