Were Opeth your first extreme metal band?

Entombed's EP 'Hollowman' was my first break from censure imposed by my parents. I had to promise that I wouldn't be corrupted listening to this strange new genre 'death metal' heeheheh.
can't remember if I bought carcass before or after that, but I remember things taking a turn for the heavier (moving away from the Megadeth/Metallica) around the time I was 14.
I used to piss everyone off at sports tournaments by sneaking into the PA room and blasting Gorefest.

Probably Possessed back in the middle 80"s - I think the 1st song I remember by them was The Beasts of the Apocolypse.

I see nothing extreme about Opeth . Awesome music , Very Original , and everything else good you can say but Extreme , define extreme . I think extreme is like Bethlehem , Mornaland , Deicide and Cannibal Corpse . But Opeth is peaceful and not very extreme .

I've been into extreme music ever since I was a kid back in the mid to late 80's. Slayer and Venom were probably my firsts. Then came Possessed, Death, Morbid Angel, and the list goes on. Since I discovered Opeth about a couple of years ago, practically all I listen to is extreme music.
