What happened to Johan and David?

Maybe he played them, but Mikael has said several times that he wrote most of the basslines

As he has always done up till now, of course this used to be done in conjunction with Peter, and has always been done with input from the other band members. So what's your point?

Even Mikael thinks he is better and I take his word over everyone else's on this board.
It's like he's gonna say that the previous member was better than the current??
(btw, I have no opinion)

No. He said that in the context of why he left, AFAIR.

Maybe Johan learned the basslines later on? That's why you saw him play them?

People, Akerfeldt is a more reliable source than any of you.. hence my doubts

Morningrise/Orchid = crappy drummer

I'm guessing if Anders hadn't quit, he would've gotten fired anyway (if his playing didn't progress, which it certainly didn't between those first albums).
first of all, anders was not a crappy drummer, he wasn't a flashy drummer but if you listen to what he plays, he was quite creative while not trying to be "if your face". I liked his style a lot

second, you dont see progress because those two albums were done within a year or two. With martin you're looking at 6-7 years of playing.

and no, anders would NOT have been fired. he was too close to the band to be fired.

Oh my god one of the band members learned what they were supposed to play after it was written?!?! HERESY!!

Well, maybe he didn't. I never saw him play.

haha how the fuck would you know the future..if someone would get fired or not? that was an incredible statement. close ties to the band, sure, but..if he doesn't cut it musically, to the others...they would ask someone to leave.

I never got into Anders' style as much. It seemed to me it didn't work quite as well in metal as it might have worked in other genres. It's not that not being flashy isn't a good thing--look at Pink Floyd's Nick Mason. He supports that band's sound quite successfully by not showing off. But I definitely do notice a difference in how I feel about Opeth's works before and after López came into the band. Anders did have good moments, of course. But I still think López was the best fit to Opeth.

I like those first albums, but I'm glad Opeth went to where they are at.

Load of shit.

Lopez is one of the best drummers ever. Nordin is a bit behind but still awesome.

It seems that people judge one's drumming skills by showing off, that would explain the love for Portnoy, who IS worse than either.

Opeth fans' tastes in musicians are worse than an angsty teen's in music.
