this thread might turn out good for a few pages before the trolls take over.

so tell me what's are the greatest bands/albums you have heard. music so good it made the hair stand up on your neck. I'm still deciding, so you'll have to wait for my list(i'm actually waiting for dodens so I can copy his :p)

Opeth is awesome, they always get me pumped. I listened to them before the show tonight and it was great. I had speakers in the dressing room and I was blaring that shit and headbanging like a maniac... noone was in there at the time.

Carcass is really good, as is Agalloch. That's my top 3.

So, basically one's favourite albums..

Black metal:

Graveland - Thousand Swords
Hail - Inheritance of Evilness
Dark Tribe - In Jeraspunta - Die Rückkehr der Tollwütigen Bestie
Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun

Death metal:

Miasma - Changes
Therion - Beyond Sanctorum
Liers in Wait - Spiritually Uncontrolled Art
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes

Thrash metal:

Exodus - Bonded By Blood
Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican

talk about your favorite songs as well if ya like :)
Too many good ones to name... I usually just name favorite albums as they generally contain a healthy portion of personal favorites. But one great track I'll name off the top of my head would be Burzum- Det Som Engang Var from Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.

Emperor- Prometheus, In the Nightside Eclipse
Symphony X- V: The New Mythology Suite, The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Dream Theater- Train of Thought
Morbid Angel- Alters of Madness
Opeth- Blackwater Park, Orchid, Deliverence, Ghost Reveries
Bal-Sagoth - The Chthonic Chronicles, Atlantis Ascendant

He said best kind of metal, not to list your favourite fucking songs.

Best kind of metal, imo, is Black Metal, partcually the late 80/early 90s stuff, such as immortal, Burzum, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Absu, and, a little later on, Satyricon. Of course the classics in the black/death genre who got the ball rolling in the early 80s is also a predominately good era.

Agalloch, Windir, Alice In Chains, Electric Wizard, Tool, Kronos, Summoning, Viikate, Opeth, Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Xasthur, Green Carnation, and maybe a few more depending on my mood but these ones get me every time.
-- All of these bands I can lose myself in the music, especially the first 5; I lose track of where I am and what I'm doing. Even though it seems I named a lot right here it's because I named EVERYTHING that does this for me.

PrimordialThe Gathering Wilderness
Agalloch The Mantle

that's basically it as far as "hairs standing up on the back of my neck" musical listening experience

Lykathea Aflame, Intestine Baalism, Burzum, Drudkh, Nokturnal Mortum, Summoning

Black:

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun

Death:

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Gorguts - Obscura
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Sentenced - North From Here

Thrash:

Sepultura - Schizophrenia
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
Sadus - Swallowed in Black
