Whats the deal with Metalcore?

I don't see how the hell someone could consider Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall as being in the same genre as Between the Buried and Me and The Red Chord. These bands have (as far as I see) NOTHING in common. I'd say BTBAM and TRC are what I consider Metalcore. Killswitch and Shadows fall...I dunno...Nu-thrash i guess would be as good a description as any heh

I can't believe people don't like Shadows Fall. I mean, they might be considered metalcore, but they are a damn talented band. Normally I would be on the hating side, but they used to be one of my favorite bands. Not anymore, but I still like them a lot.

yeah black metal especially is getting tiresome - like cradle of filth i got bored of pretty quick. same with loads of metal...and what people say is punk is completely different to how it used to be...even hardcore and screamo stuff i think is closer to pop than punk!i!i!

Anyhow, how could have I forgotten to shit on Every Time I Die in my initial post?! I cannot believe the respect they get! It's commanding! It's something I've never understood since the first time I heard their broadcasted filth. In all honesty, I don't see how anyone could find it appealing.

hey Indrid Cold from the Extol Forums!! Its me "Supernova", nice to see you join the Opeth family as well!

Your post reminded me of the time i watched Everytime I Die at Sounds of The Underground, i almost feel asleep standing up watching that crap, no lie. The amount of respect that gay band gets is ridiculous. What garbage.

Black Metal like who? :tickled:

Seriously that comment will get you a lot of grief buddy.
You need to learn all the super super sub-sub-subgenres a little bit more me thinks.

LOL

Obviously hasnt listened to Burzum, Immortal, Ulver, Borknagar, Solefald, Enslaved, Drudkh, Negura Bunget, Graveland, Naglfar... um, should I keep going?

CoF is practically in the same league as all the patheic metalcore garbage.

Well I don't agree with that, but yeah, they obviously know as much about BM as most of us know about Metalcore or whatever.

CoF being in the same league as Opeth and Nightwish etc since they all have major label backing yet are from an underground background, meaning they have been kicking around over a decade on various labels and released more than 3 CD's and have a reason to sell lots of merch/tickets/albums.

Metalcore bands mostly seeming to pop out of nowhere with no reason or history with more videos than a normal band would make in their entire career...

Metalcore sounds like retarded 12 year olds with ADD having spazz attacks. Metalcore is the second coming of nu-metal. Metalcore is equilavant to old people wearing depends.

the american metal scene is just going through a tough time right now. Let's take a moment to remember the glory days of thrash.

I would never have guessed it was you, SuperNova...err..EveofDarkness - the Dilemma Inconceivable song you sent me - does it cut out after 2 and 1/2 minutes? Seems there should be more to it. It's definitely "Synergy"-era!

Anyway, good to see someone from Metal HQ still alive. I wish there was a warning previous to the termination so we could have destinated a new forum to go to. Oh well...

To all others - bands to feed the flames: Fear Before the March of Flames and Underoath = the epitomy of metal-core and all that we seem to abhor.

But it's practically Scream-o.............they're knocking on Fall Out Boy's door!

I've heard that they were pretty heavy several years ago, but I haven't given those records a listen as of yet...likely won't :Smug:

Look guys, I don't really "dig" the metal scene to the same extent that a lot of the posters on this board evidently do but what's the fucking deal with associating what you consider to be an inferior form of music (I've barely heard any bands that fit the general criteria for "metalcore" save for Trivium, Killswitch Engage and *vomits* Raging Speedhorn) with a sexual orientation?

You're not exactly macho for listening to more traditional forms of metal. It's only fair to bear in mind that the extreme metal scene as we know it today wouldn't exist without the speed and thrash metal of the 1980's, which itself wouldn't have come about without hardcore-punk influenced bands such as Metallica, Motorhead and Slayer. For me, the only time since then that hardcore punk and metal have become appropriate bedfellows (no pun intended) were in the relatively metallic leanings of late Black Flag and early Sick of it All in the latter years of that decade and I find the aforementioned "metalcore" bands to be just as insipid as the likes of Slipknot but what specifically makes it "gay"?

You mean "gay" compared to the "women aren't good enough to give us hard-on" dogma with regards to female inclusiveness extreme metal scene? The androgynous squealing of Immortal and Emperor and their penchant for white foundation make-up? The homoerotic imagery of Venomn? The genre's staunch, ideological opposition to mainstream morality that I should have hoped would draw in a relatively enlightened fan base? Well who am I kidding? When are metal fans going to learn to drop this kind of peurile, neanderthallic, boneheaded machismo?

lets see... you are taking up for metalcore, and saying not to call it gay, i guess youre a wristcutting, emo listening, gay, motherfucker

or i missed something completely :erk:
