First off. I love(d) Opeth. Their Deliverance album was just ok. Their Damnation album was ok but for different reasons. Their new cd, in my opinion, is just crap. If I wanted to listen to a 70's prog rock band, I'd go listen to someone else. When I listen to Opeth, I want to listen to Opeth. They've always been good about mixing it up, putting the heavy death metal with the acoustic classical kinda stuff but the new cd is just a mess of "heavy" songs and "soft" songs. And they added keyboards. How lame is that? I hate keyboards. If I wanted keyboards, I'd listen to dream theater. . . Opeth, to me, have lost their touch. If you want to call it selling out, that's fine, or maturing or just wanting to do something different, that's cool. And it's their choice. I just know from now on I'm never going to blindly buy an Opeth album.

but they're not a 70's prog band... they're, now, a 2006 prog band, and they have death metal influences, and that makes them quite different than 70's prog bands.

cause, ya know, they didn't have death metal back when.

I just listened to Blackwater Park and to me it was extremely boring. I tried very hard to like it because Opeth are so hyped and my friend loves them, but I just didn't hear anything. Every single riff sounded exactly the same to me. The death vocals were nothing to write home about, and the vaunted clean parts seemed to just be inserted randomly and didn't really work for me.

What am I missing here?
