Ummm...I think it's the other way around.
Literally been taking almost no notice of the production and just getting into the vibe of albums recently. Not sure if Elbow was this year or last but 'The Seldom Seen Kid' was really, really moving and sincerely spoke to me - loved it.
Good production for me this year has been anything that has given the band/their songs/their ethos/vibe a platform to just get into my head and let me feel the music. Crack the Skye did this better than any other album I heard - it had so much soul; not overthought pop structures into heavy music, produced to fuckery and rammed into my ears. Fuck that.
Since alot of you said Mastodon - Crack the Skye, anybody know what guitar gear they used amp-wise? I was guessing Marshall JCM 800 since I've seen them use those on tour and DVD but not sure. It's got that Marshall twang to it.
