Which bands do you think are overhyped?

Negura Bunget - perhaps one day I'll understand why this band is so beloved around these parts. So far, I have no clue.

Overall I agree more than I disagree on Bathory Greg. To me, they're a band I can definitely appreciate musically at times, though after numerous attempts I'm still not a fan of Quorthon's vocal style. Though as I was telling Ali at Heathen Crusade III, some of their songs definitely hit the spot for their epic atmosphere ("Shores in Flames" immediately came to mind when we were all suggesting in our drunken stupor that Ancient Rites pull out some cover songs in an extended set. I'd be rocking OUT if I heard the riffs from that song live.). I also greatly appreciate and respect their importance to the scene.

I agree 100% on DsO, just awful to these ears.

While I'm not as big a HoM fan as some folks around these parts, I'm definitely a fan and have thoroughly enjoyed much of what I've heard. The August Engine continues to be their standout album to me.

I disagree 100% on Negura Bunget. Awesome band.

The cleaner styles I've heard primarily on Hammerheart, Twilight of the Gods and both Nordland albums.

I definitely prefer the growling style I've heard on Under the Sign of the Black Mark. Songs like "Enter the Eternal Fire" and "13 Candles" fucking slay.
 
I think I love Bathory even more now than a few years ago. I put on Nordland I a couple days ago just 'cause I found the cd lying around and was banging my head nonstop!

Holy shit, I agree with Zod! "The Locust Years" was garbage. Haven't listened to any of the more recent stuff. Nice guys, though.

Add to the list: Aeternus, Hypocrisy, My Dying Bride, Primordial and, of course, Celtic Frost.

hypocrisy, i can only appreciate certain albums, same with MDB, same with primordial. CF blows.

DsO is the biggest pile of overhyped crap this side of meshuggah

Zod and I have very similar tastes in music. For that reason alone, I'm not even going to bother trying to listen to Deathspell Omega.
