I cant vote, I like so many different kinds, depends waht kind of mood im in. Nice to see Nu-metal is in there with a big fat Zero. I guess I'll vote classic cuz thats what im lisnin to at the moment.

Brutal Death, Death Metal, Thrash, speed... and I even like some doom...

It's all good. Well, except for NU metal... that is...

My taste is very broad, I like stuff varying from Pearl Jam/ Garbage (the band that is...) to Morbid Angel/ Nile.

However, my most favoured kind of music is intense and melodic and I find that mostly in genres that fall under the Death Metal umbrella. Though I enjoy a regular dose of Black Metal (Emperor) as well as pure Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden) as well as well... many others... :)

Uh, do I have to pick, its too fucking hard.

I'm gonna have to say Death because I loved that before I got into Black and Doom. Well, no because Thrash got me into Death metal.....Arrrrgghh!!! I can't choose.

Well said. I'm way more into black metal now, but in my formative years, the metal escalated over time. First wimpy butt rock, then heavier, yet still commercial stuff (Metallica, Ozzy, Queen, et. al-whatever was in Circus Magazine at the time), then thrash, then death, then black....and I've yet to get into something more extreme from black that I like. I voted for death metal cuz it really is so diverse compared to the other choices. IMHO anyway. The 90's had a lot of different kinds of cool death metal.

I love Doom. Trouble, Electric Wizard, ST. Vitus, Black Sabbath (the Grandsire of Doom), Spirit Caravan, Count Raven, some of those might count in other catagories. Power Metal, Prog, Classic, Some Death and Black. Anything but Nu-metal. I'm listening to Nightwish now and that's what? Operatic female vocalist? Great music. But what the hell? I am not sure I understand all the labels anyway. Some of the bands you people were calling Death, I thought were Black and somebody listed Zero Hour, which is playing at Prog 3.0 in Atlanta and I really like them. What are Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray? They don't play the same type of music as Devin Townsend who is also going to be there! Labels! F*** It If you don't like it, don't listen. Just give it all a chance. By the way, have I mentioned that bands that are labeled nu-metal suck!!!!!!!!!

There are too many bands who kick ass from all genres to really choose. :yuk: Although I have to admit I listen to Power Metal the most (I suppose Progmetal dances around that area)

If it crunches, I tend to like it. :D For the most part, I really don't know how to tell the difference between most of the poll choices. hehehe. Metal is just metal to me.

All of the above.

You obviously well never get all the metal genre and most people who are open minded will listen to it all...cept nu metal. I must single that out of the metal genre because its just plain shit. Just my opinion there.

The best Metal genre is any band or song for that matter, that transcends any set genre. For instance, I think a band like Arcturus who seems to draw on so many inspirations from black, to electronica, to classical, to jazz, is a definition of a band transcending genre and becoming far better musically for it. Hell look at the really great bands like Led Zeppelin and Sabbath- both drew upon blues and folk as well as hard rock metal- Death is kinda of a technical florida death metal, thrash, jazz hybrid. The list of genre defying bands goes on and on.

The worst for me is mindless fantasy power metal- or mindless deathcore, or grindcore, well there exists a lot of terrible bands in every genre. Yet, there is nothing worse than hearing bad powermetal- especially when the voice over starts with The knights with big swords fought the firebreathingdragons etc. - god what a riot, these guys must be stuck in some pathetic state of suspended childhood. Hell, i'd rather listen to nu metal.
