If you read through the thread you'll notice that I've already mentioned that I forgot "A Lesson before Dying". The Edge of Forever is not a longtrack for me!
The Edge Of Forever, while being the longest song on Damnation Game, isn't really able to be considered a big song, because it's only 8 minutes. I think what constitutes a big song may be if the number of minutes is in the double digits. Thats how I look at it. There are other exceptions to my philosophy, but either they dont apply to any Symphony X songs, or I just dont feel like listing them. Let me decide.
This is like being asked to choose your favorite child over another. Can't be done! Right now, I'd have to say Divine Wings of Tragedy. If there ever was a masterful combination of metallic fury and sheer beauty, this song is it. You can almost hear the intro being performed in an ancient cathedral.
The Odyssey just fills me with such a good feeling when I hear it. It just has that 'adventurous' spirit throughout. The Overture/Odysseus' Theme is absolutely incredible. Could make John Williams jealous he didn't come up with that first!
V is my fav. album right now, and Rediscovery alone is worth the price of the CD. Could there have been a better choral piece (central theme) to close out the song? Michael Romeo is a genius.
It's impossible for me to decide. That's the toughest question I've ever heard. And yes, A Lesson Before Dying would have made a nice addition to the poll.
