Why Work?

Erik: interesting post, it sums up my opinions to some extent as well. as for university studies etc; have you done högskoleprovet? if you score well at that you'll get in just about anywhere, unless that sound engineer education has some really lame admission rules/conditions.

spaffe: Actually I'll take this in Swedish because even in English no one would understand what I'm talking about: Jag ska göra högskoleprovet, ja, ljudteknikprogrammet har dock ett särskilt intagningsprov i musikteori och ellära (!)...

I really really really like the letter å. It just kicks so much ass for reasons unknown.

I really do feel currently that I want to do everything in my power to live as far away from the usual rat race and strive for money and status where people do so much to accomplish so pathetically little. I really, really want to live a life where work is united with interests, where I have to do as little as possible that I don't want to do. I so deeply hope that these dreams and aspirations will not be crushed and that I will have to be relegated to a future of flipping burgers or flipping papers. Fuck.
I fucking hear you man.

On a lighter note, today is my day off.

I want to be a lottery winner when I grow up. That way, I won't have to ever worry about money again, and can just enjoy my interests and simply enjoy life.

If I win the lottery, you all are invited to my new multi-million dollar home on the lake. I'll fly you all down here to enjoy some real Texas barbecue (none of that poser BS you have elsewhere), and chill on the lake while babes a-plenty swim around in dental floss.

I'm going into Music studies (performance for Guitar and Tuba, also learn alot of music skills like recording and stuff). I am very weary of this because I have all the credits and marks to get into engineering, but I really can't picture me doing that my WHOLE life, music is one thing I can. I'll probably be extremely poor, but I'll be doing something I love, and that's what counts. I say if you love music, go for it, there is lots of programs out there, and granted you won't be the richest person, you will have a stable living (maybe). I just know I'll be playing my guitar (and tuba) my whole life and that's what I want.

Tubas fucking rule. I played the clarinet for years, choice instrument of Jews everywhere. :loco:

Clarinet is an extremely beautiful instrument, especially when doing duets with a flute.

@ Erik: Have you ever considered playing Classical guitar? It helps alot when going into music and it is indeed a wonderful instrument.

Classical guitar can be frustrating to play, but are very fun once you get used to them. I don't have the patience to learn them properly, but I can fake my way through pretty decent now.

Clarinets are either graceful or extremely annoying. With flutes and oboes, graceful. With brass, annoying.

Municipal staff in Gothenburg will act as guinea pigs in a proposed push for six-hour workdays with full pay, with hopes that it will cut down on sick leave, boost efficiency, and ultimately save Sweden money.

"We think it's time to give this a real shot in Sweden," Mats Pilhem, Left Party deputy mayor of Gothenburg, told The Local.

He explained that the municipal council would use two different departments - a test group and a control group, in essence. Staff in one section will cut down to six-hour days, while their colleagues in a different section stick to the ordinary seven-hour day. All employees will be given the same pay.

"We'll compare the two afterwards and see how they differ. We hope to get the staff members taking fewer sick days and feeling better mentally and physically after they've worked shorter days," he said.

Pilhem said he hoped the move would create more jobs, as he had seen evidence that longer shifts entailed less efficiency. In some sectors, such as elderly care, the problem was not staff shortages, he claimed, but people working inefficiently over longer shifts.

He added that a Gothenburg car factory had recently tested the six-hour method and the results were encouraging.

The opposition in the western city has reacted strongly to the test run.

Maria Rydén of the Moderates, who also sits on the city council, told the Metro newspaper that the proposal was a "dishonest and populist ploy" with elections just around the corner. She added that she didn't think such a move would have any impact on quality.

But Pilhem said the plan was nothing new.

"We've worked a long time on this, we've not planned it to be an election thing," he said. "These people are always against shortening hours."

Various parts of Sweden have experimented with shorter working hours before, but the concept has yet to take off.

Motherfuckers.

I love my job. Almost as much as I love not working. I would love to see 4-day work weeks become standard, but it never will. Meh, whatever.

I can't play classical guitar for shit. This is my one and only lie in over 36,000 posts.
