Will you ever become as great as Opeth?

Those are just short samples, and the mix is about as bad as MAYH. If you could hear the acoustic guitar, you would know just how uberpwn it is over Opeth. And also my solos are cooler and I can shred, and my tapping rhythm is pretty cool.

If i make it, i'm sure i'll never think i'm up to opeth's standards.. but i'm sure somebody would think i was.

By taking various influences and trying to mold them together coherently and so that they don't just absoloutely rip off my influences. Trying to push myself by trying to write a song that is either more complex, melodic, heavy each time.. never just sticking to a routine. To use a wide variety of playing styles, harmonies, tunings, equipment and effects etc.. Never just sticking to what i know works.. not being affraid to try things and failing.. just as long as you realise you've fucked up lol

I seem to always seem to want to go off topic, but w012thless, that picture in your sig is mildly disturbing :ill:

but on topic- no, I won't ever be as great as Opeth

of course. it's there for oinkness' benefit. it's been established in a different thread--maybe the one about mayh intro reversed?--that he thinks the "chick" in that photo is hot. clearly he's got a thing for not just guys but emo guys. which is just plain wrong :Spin:

Your ego is almost as bad as your music. Trust me- I've made pretty terrible stuff and liked it at the time because it was mine. That doesn't mean it wasn't terrible. Same rule applies to you, and if you were wise you wouldn't flaunt yourself all over the internet before you have something you'll be proud of three years down the line.

FYI- the mayh production owns your production.

There's no ego involved, you don't have the full songs so you wouldn't know. I will probably be making the same kind of stuff in 3 years, hopefully with some bandmates..

My production is better than MAYH's production! FACT! MAYH sounded like it was 112 quality or something.... I guess my samples probably sound shitty too, but I have a 320 CBR version here so It's not bad :(

I don't care what bit rate you use. I said it before- a huge part of production is the sounds you start with, and you have bad, bad sounds.

opeth probably reckon they don't measure up to some of their own heroes, luckily it doesn't matter. you get way too close to your own music to make a value judgement on it, that's for others to do- i don't think i'll ever write something as good as opeth's music, luckily im not the judge!

Now now, let us not fight.

Let us discuss how we can achieve such greatness as Opeth.

Together, we could achieve so much. But first you have to come into my soundproofed cellar.

I think its possible to one day be as good as Opeth... it seems more realistic than comparing yourself to Steve Vai... The strategy is to synthesis all the best parts of your influences and add yourself into them... It seems to me thats what Opeth has done...

also... I will get an amazing keyboard player named after a fruit...
There is about 5 million guitarists that can play as well and technically as Vai, and because he writes boring shit then it'll be easy to be better than him. Not many, if any, can write as well as Mike, as well as being one of the best vocalists around in music.

You are neither good at soloing or rhythm. and two, find a better guitar sound and tweak your levels. I recommend micing an amp rather than hooking up directly into your recording program.

Although, I'll wait for this demo until I judge your horrible, worthless pile of shit completely.

Oinkness. The rythm bit had a few nice ideas, but i wouldn't say it was anything to really show off about. The "solo-improvisation" bit i did not like, but meh, to each his own.

These comments are about WHAT you are playing. HOW you are playing them is not really up for question...you cannot try to claim (based on these samples) that your guitar playing is particularly good. It is not exceptionally bad (obviously this all depends on what you are comparing it to), but it is NOT exceptionally good. If you want examples of unknown people who are far more talented guitar players than yourself, head over to the SymphonyX musicians forum on this website and check out some of the people's playing there. Although they are playing COMPLETELY different styles of music than you (all of their names are gay things like "shredder0667"), they are talented guitar players (not necessarily songwriters, but that's not what im talking about here, as "good songwriting" is a far more personal and subjective idea).

I'm sorry, i don't really like telling people that i don't think they're very good, especially when it's about something as subjective as guitar playing...but when people get arrogant and full-of-themselves about it, it's sorta hard to bare.
