Win Vista DAW

I urge everyone not to even download the beta of that gigantic, steaming pile of shit, let alone record on it.

It's XP with Mac-influenced graphics, more pretty animations to suck up your resources (min. system req. = 1gig of RAM), and more obsurd security crap. Whenever you make a system change, it blacks out the screen and brings up a dialogue box, asking if you really want to make the change.

Not only pentium D.
New Conroe is palladium ready
New Amds are palladium ready
All new mainboards are palladium ready (not asus)

Palladium will start probably with the vistas first service pack but...we have very very little information about this...probably because Microsoft & co. want to push this system in "hidden mode", very slow....in the ass of everybody in the world

Why is it that all threads I start turn to "windows sucks dude... Whats wrong with you? Are you stupid? get a F'in Mac" SOME OF US DO NOT HAVE MACS, AND MAYBE SOME OF US DONT WANT ONE!!! Geesh. Sorry... Long day @ work gettin wet in the rain. Anyway, The RC1 of vista is out. It is their Retail Canidate and are asking people to help with the testing. It wouldn't be a bad idea if some of us got in now, so that maybe they will/can make the necesarry changes to it before it is done. It loaded my Mackie Spike without looking for drivers, so that is a plus.

Ok I hate to chime in with the macs are better guys but I got to say macs aren't that exspensive compared to pc.

I will explain:

You can score a powermac G5 dual for not that much:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PowerMac-G5-dua...7QQihZ009QQcategoryZ51036QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now that price seems like a alot but consider what you get:

2 - 2ghz processors
8 slots for RAM exspantion and included 1gig (count it thats up to 8gigs of RAM)
160gig HD and room for another
And a video card that supports dual monitors

You don't get a monitor but hey most people who buy these don't want to get stuck down with what is included.

Now lets take a PC that compares to this (I went with this because the PC is obviously for recording)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Computer-Digita...ryZ41784QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Again in my opinion overkill for the average home recording studio but around the same price as a powermac.

Now as far as the "exspensive idea" this just isn't true you can score a mac mini wich is more than capable of being a DAW for less than $700.

As far as PCs go I am not saying that they suck because they don't its the os I have a problem with. XP is not as easy to use (so many posts concerning how to get hardware to work on XP in the other forum I'm in) as OSX and has way more issues as far as working the way it should, plus microsoft is not exactly Johnny on the spot with updates. And I find the biggest disadvantage is the dreaded virus issues it has.

Holy Christ. How is it that every remotely fucking techologically related thread on this forum has to boil down to the tired Mac vs PC debate. Give it a rest. Nobody gives a shit and nobody is going to be influenced.

What we should be focusing on is how to get through the next decade of PC use without Palladium hounding our every step.

Listen, I grew up with macs and I love them, but when it came time to buy my own computers, pc's were far cheaper and they still are. I build my own computers. My last one cost me under $400. (I salvaged the case and power supply from my last computer so that saved my a few bucks but not that much. I've got 2 gigs ram and an AMD Athalon 64 with two small hard drive worth 280 gigs. You can't get anything cheaper than that. I just built a whole system similar to mine for a friend of mine for about $600 and he's got dual 300+ gig hard drives and 2 gigs of ram. I want a mac, but not until I get rich.

Good for you man. I dont know how to build computers, so i choose an allready built one that i KNOW will do the job without making me a coputer expert. I dont want to get minute by minute messages from the anti-virus software. I dont want to ask my friends about the file that they are sending me over messenger. I just want to click it and see what's all about without worries. I want to see that i spent money on a computer that just works, without constant reinstalling the OS. I want a trouble free computer and i am willing to pay for it. My friend keeps saying this: would you buy a car knowing that you will repear it constantly and that allmost everybody has a key to it?
