I LOVE Ensiferum's Iron and I doubt I'll try to proclaim one band better than the other, but this Wintersun album is good stuff too and I'm personally wondering how Ensiferum is going to sound without Jari leading the way. His songwriting skills are obviously exceptional and his voice was always a key part of their music, as is evident by how great his new project is. The song I listed above is probably better than anything Ensiferum though, so sorry. Although "Into Battle" is a beast. Just extremely fun bands and I enjoy the hell out of them both. Need to listen to the Ensiferum s/t more.

Actually, you should just listen to the Ensiferum debut PERIOD!
By the way, there is no doubting that some material on the Wintersun album is good, but there's also a lot of crap to deal with: bad songwriting together with nasty drum triggering / programming. Altogether, that detracts from the overall album.
I'm curious as to how many people regard "entire albums" to be great, when in reality, only about half the songs are anywhere near decent.

The drums really don't bother me at all. I don't get the fake, over the top vibe everyone else is, just doesn't feel that way to me.
I also DO enjoy the entire Wintersun album, and I think it flows very well. Can't really argue feeling, but it comes off as "right" to me and I'm honestly quite surprised that a lot of people dislike it. Just listening to the last half of the album has me in a trance, especially the end of "Beautiful Death" here. Really solid all around album. Jari is also one of the best viking metal vocalists out there if not THE best. He just has an awesome voice that fits this kind of music perfectly. About to listen to the Ensiferum s/t as this album wraps up.

Okay, alot of people are ragging on the drumming. Now, triggered tone and production aside, I think Kai Hato did an awesome job with the drums, he is one of the most solid consistent drummers out there imo. I think most of the songs on the Wintersun CD are very well composed, not just a few good songs, but pretty much the whole CD has top notch composition. Again just my opinion though, sadly we cant all be right like Gugs.

Beware "Token of Time". The riff has a tendency to get stuck in your head for days a la Moonsorrow's "Sankarihauta".

the entire Wintersun cd is pure genius. as much as I love Ensiferum, Wintersun song writing is far superior.

wintersun is fucking amazing. Jari has kickass vocals and there are so many solid riffs and great guitar playing on this album. Drumming is also amazing and complements the songs perfectly, fuck go listen to the song Winter Madness anyone who says different.
