I was hoping it wasn't as bad as I remembered. It is worse.

I was thinking that Maiden Downunder is fucking boring, and I wish I loved everything like Blitz does.

St Anger could have been a great album. I've liked it less and less since it came out - I was a big fan at the beginning.

Lars just shouldn't of tried to get a sound that was current with a few bands, then forget to produce the sound a bit. I have noticed a few bands that use a very snap sounding Snare, but the get the tinny sound out of it in production

I've only heard the 2 singles off of it.

They both sucked harder than hard. Poor songwriting, and indescribably bad production. I have produced better sounding recordings by sticking a few mics at random locations around the rehearsal room and running them into an old 4track.

I think it could have been a brilliant album, but it was just handled sooo poorly. Give it the production of the black album, or perhaps something similar to Load but heavier, and edit the crap out of the songs and cut and paste a few things, and it would have been brilliant. Alas.
There is still some good stuff on there though, Sweet Amber and The Unnamed Feeling are awesome songs, and there is other good bits here and there. The only song that I think completely blows and could not have been turned into something great, is Purify, what a piece of shit. Worst song Metallica have ever done.

I don't know why we still argue about the production on Metallica albums. Almost all of their albums have crap production, or low mastering, or something.
