Yep. St Anger sucks.

What were you thinking when you spent money on it?
I was thinking... $18 and a free DVD? Fuck yeah! :headbang:

St Anger could have been a great album. I've liked it less and less since it came out - I was a big fan at the beginning.
That's exactly how I feel now. There's still a few songs that I quite like on it, but the majority is less than skip-worthy.

Yes. St. Anger could have been a great album. If it was Master Of Puppets. But its not, its just a steaming turd.

It would read like a great tradgedy of Rehab if it was in book form with the repetition taken out

And yes I like the album, do I need a reason....NO so bash it up ya stinky blurter. The sound on the DVD is ALOT better that the CD sadly

I really do still like St. Anger

I think it's their weakest album, and it has their worst song on it (Shoot me Again) but but I still like all the songs on it... Frantic, Sweet Amber and All Within my Hands are still up there in the ranks for the best Metallica songs.

I think the whole album is fucking good, but there should be a few solos to break up the repetitiveness, and the chorus' where shit is just repeated and repeated, that should been removed to make 5 minute songs

All Within My Hands and The Unnamed Feeling work well as long songs, but most of the others need to be cut down/changed up a bit. The title track and Some Kind Of Monster would be good longer songs if they had some other parts like solos to break them up a bit and get rid of repetition as Southy just said, but pretty much every other song is too long.

Shoot Me Again was always one of my favourites; while Some Kind Of Monster, The Unnamed Feeling and Sweet Amber were ones I hated.

the thing I don't like about Shoot me Again is that verse riff...

it just sounds like a Korn-style riff that was made up on the spot and kept because they couldn't be bothered making something better. It just grates on me when I hear it.

I listened to it again today so I can contribute to this thread. With the sole exception of Lars' drum, I like it. I like it a lot. I like it more now than I did when it first came out.

I actually think that the production has a lot to do with it. If the album was "properly" produced and James sang properly, I think the songs would be as boring as bat shit. The way they are, the production lends the songs a sense of urgency and anger and that's what the album is. It's more of an angry album rather than a metal album. I think if it was a band other than Metallica everyone would love it and call it a masterpiece (except for the drums).

*Shakes head* And to think, I thought you were one of the more sane ones on this board... :)
