I really like the way the bass is used on Soilwork's "Natural Born Chaos". There's much of the same thing going on with the new Warrel Dane album.
I like a lot of the modern punk albums like Rise Against, some of the AFI from a few years back.on. A lot of Fender w/pick into an SVT II.
That being said, my sound has nothing to the with the sounds I love from other bands. I always keep in mind much of it is in the technical and creative side of playing that helps the sound come through. Some of these are very different sounds, and some just really fit in oh so well with the everything else.

Metallica - S/T
Voivod-Nothingface
Rush-Hemispheres
COB- Follow The Reaper
Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction
John Entwhistle - anything live from the mid 70's
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion (not sucking up to Egan) I really like how the bass plays a part of the heavy, but he knows that.
Extol - Mesmerized EP
Watchtower - Control and Resistance
Hypocrisy - Hypocrisy (like the dirt)
Meshuggah - None
Psychotic Waltz - Bleeding
Skid Row - S/T
Sacred Reich - Independent
Overkill - Horrorscope
Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction

A lot of these tones are sounds I would never commit to tape my self, or haven't attempted since '97 with Prototype as far as the boingy sounds go. All good stuff though.
