I have lots of favourite solos. The one thing that appeared in my head when I read this thread title however wasn't a solo, but the Ritchie Blackmore blues intro into `Strange kind of Woman` from on their Made in Japan album ( 1972 ) It is a short , authentic and classy run of maybe 25 notes and ending in a wonderful F sharp 7 ( if I remember correctly ). Bliss, and this sort of run is very era, they cant write this sort of stuff anymore.

I'm afraid there are to many to list but one of the first really cool guitar solos I heard was from Deep Purple Made In Japan double album and the track was Highway Star.
