I never used the black ones, so i cant compare them, but the Ultex one feels much stiffer then the red ones(Yet more responsive.), and you get a real good grip on them as well(Thanks to them being slightly larger and made of ultex.).

By far the best pick i have ever tried.

Yeah I'm diggin the Ultex JIII as well. I keep using it over the Pitch Black JazzIII that I was using previously. I really like the attack of the Ultex more, it's sharper but not as scratchy if that makes any sense.
