Just picked up a YJM308 Malmsteen preamp/boost pedal for $40. I actually liked it better than my TS9 and Max808 on some amps (a few Marshalls and a Tiny Terror). Sticking it between a passive pickup and a TS9 gave the guitar more of an active pickup sound.

wanted more than the two octaves i've got in my axiom 25. going to lose all the extra midi fiddling capabilities of the axiom, but get more keys.

i love the feel of m-audio keys, they're somewhere in between of hammer-action and synth keys. maybe i could actually learn to play now that i'm going to get 5 octaves!

it's actually got a built-in audio interface and 5 built-in sounds which are apparently pretty good, which is amazing for the price but doesn't do me any good as it's going to be just for midi stuff.
