i'm just wondering about your opinions. i personally don't care because i don't listen to lyrics anyway, and especially not if the band has harsh vocals. if the band has clean vocals which i can actually understand, i might avoid them but whats the point in avoiding a band because it has hateful lyrics when i won't even be able to decipher them in the first place?

I'd laugh at anyone with truly racist or hateful lyrics. Silly bastards. So of course I'd not listen, well pay attention, but I'm about as prjudiced as a turnip (I just have an indecent sense of humour).

why does it even matter?

I'd much rather listen to Anal Cunt or GG Allin or Vaginal Jesus than some pc faggot band like Propaghandi or The Locust singing about how much their pussy hurts.

Only the lyrical content can be hateful. Bands write music just as brutal, heavy or aggressive as Suffocation or Napalm Death and hate is not their main focus.

something like napalm death or suffocation is not "hateful" music?

Hardly. If you're referring to the music, see that post that talks about music's neutrality. If you're referring to the lyrics, then I would say that the lyrical focus of such bands might be considered "angry", but not "hateful". Hateful infers that one is irrefutably disgusted with general life and cannot stand it. People like this would probably not waste their time around the primarily social aspect of being in a band/touring.

I don't stop myself from listening to quality music just because I don't agree with the message given off by the band. But to say that lyrics are unimportant is doing a great disservice to music as art in general.

True that. Though I don't actively listen to the lyrics, I still have respect for bands who can write interesting, well thought-out lyrics.
