Taake - Nor
Bathory - Swe
Drudkh - Ukr
Nokturnal Mortum - Ukr
Kroda - Ukr
Pagan Reign - Rus

Forefather - UK

bah, thats 11.

I'm really biased too, but here goes:

Ofermod (SWE)
Behexen (FIN)
Merrimack (FRA)
Darkthrone (NOR)
1349 (NOR)
Tsjuder (NOR)
Emperor (NOR)
Enslaved (NOR)
Satyricon (NOR)
Antaeus (FRA)

Darkthrone - Norway
Deathspell Omega - France
Dissection - Sweden
Drudkh - Ukraine
Emperor - Norway
Enslaved - Norway
Immortal - Norway
Shining - Sweden
Negura Bunget - Romania
Wolves in the Throne Room - USA

OK this isn't exact, but close enough:

NORWAY: 57
SWEDEN: 19
FRANCE: 19
UKRAINE: 13
USA: 11
GERMANY: 9
FINLAND: 7
POLAND: 6
ROMANIA: 6
AUSTRIA: 4
HOLLAND: 2
CANADA: 2
COLUMBIA: 1
LITHUANIA: 1
ICELAND: 1

Not many surprises other than I would have expected many more votes for Negura Bunget and Nokturnal Mortum.

Also, to be fair, France should be in the #2 spot simply because people were listing Bathory which bumped up the Sweden numbers.

Either way, Norway are EASILY the dominating force of Black Metal, with obvious repeat votes for the usual suspects (Emperor, Burzum, etc) although it was odd to see Enslaved only getting 5 votes total.

You missed 5 votes for Greece and (I think) 2 from the Czech Republic, aka 40% and 30% of swizzlenuts' and my lists, respectively. :p

We should widen that to how many bands of which nationality does everyone own in their collection. It would be interesting to see how stronglz geographical location impacts on the ratio depending on said location. Or something like that.

So not much love for Negura Bunget or Nokturnal Mortum anymore?

EDIT: I suppose Negura appeared 6 times, but NM only appeared 3 times: Doomcifer, Mathias, and Krigloch. Interesting.

I enjoy both but I wouldn't put them in my top 10 now, nor would I have in the past. That said, I've not made a top 10 list of black metal bands. I hope this thread gets bumped when I have access to my CD collection and am not on a black metal hiatus.

I think only two bands received a near-perfect score for all their albums on RC (from different reviewers). One was Empyrium and the other was Negura Bunget.

Moonsorrow (late stuff more black metal?)

uh... no, not at all. moonsorrow is not a black metal band, and they have never made any black metal songs. if you want to hear their closest, listen to the re-released and remastered demo. it's good.

Emperor - (Norway)
Root (Czech)
Living Colour (US) :D
Negura Bunget - (Romania)
Sigh (Japan)
Dissection (Sweden) - maybe black, maybe death
Wolves in the Throne Room (US)
Woods of Ypres (Canada, eh)
Celtic Frost (Switzerland)
Anorexia Nervosa (France)
Melechesh - all over the place
Mercyful Fate - Denmark
