More modern/thrashy melodic stuff would be Duskfall, BloTorch, Nightrage, (older) Haunted and so on...

Night in gales is a German Melodic Death Metal band, really cool, let me find their myspace for you, and Gardenian well, they fucking Rule. Worth a listen both albums.
