Let's see...

With these, I'm going for ones where the story really interested me, not just ones where the music was good. Hence, no Seventh Son or Nightfall on Middle Earth. Oh, and I haven't listened to The Crimson Idol enough yet, so I'm not including it this time.

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Savatage - Streets
Dream Theater - Metropolis 2
Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
Savatage - The Wake of Magellan

Only five... hmm...

Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory
Iron Maiden - 7th son of a 7th son

i think thats the only concept albums i own....hmmm

MAIDEN - 7th son
King Diamond - Them
" " - Conspirisy
" " - The eye
Nevermore - Dreaming...
W.A.S.P. - Crimson Idol
Blind Gardian - Nightfall...
Dio - Magica
Roger Glover's - The Butterfly Ball

Wow never realised I had so many Concepts....
HEY CROWLEY.... you titled this "top 6..."
you put 8....I'm sure you've got shit loads more than that when you think about it!!! :) ;)

I don't think I've got many concept albums. The only one's I know that I've got are

Maiden - 7th Son
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

Unless you count
Bruce - Chemical Wedding (which I obviously don't)

And what about
The Who - Tommy
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Rocky Horror show.
although these are more soundtracks than album I s'pose

This is kinda hard cos as far as i know i only own 2:confused:

But i have to say The Crimson Idol by Wasp is my fav concept album in fact its my fav album of all time.

And Magica is the only other one i can think of.

In no order except the first:
1 - Dream Theater, Scenes from a memory

Queensryche, Operation Mindcrime
Dio, Magica
Iced Earth. Dark Saga
Shadow Gallery, Tryanny
Explorers Club, Age of Impact
Roger Glover, Butterfly Ball

The Explorers Club one is really cool. Has some awesome musicians on it, including John Pettrucci, and James LaBrie from Dream Theater. Pettrucci does some of his best geetar work on the album I reckon!

1. Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare
2. Alice Cooper - Brutal Planet
3. Alice Cooper - The Last Temptation
4. W.A.S.P. - The Crimson Idol

I never actually realised 7th Son is a concept album...guess I should read the lyrics more eh??! :) What is the concept with that album then?

I've always (well, not always, but you know what I mean) been of the opinion that TCW is more of a themed album rather than a concept album in the true sense.

Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga
Dio - Magica
Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle Earth
Kiss - Music From The Elder

Erm......the chemical wedding is close enough to a concept album seeing as they are all based on william blakes poetry......which is a concept, if a broad one! I reckon anyway :)

I love the crimson idol to. I remember when i first got it, i was blown away.
And apart from that album i don't really like wasp.

In my opinion, 'concept albums' are albums where there's a story that the whole album follows - eg. Seventh Son, Operation: Mindcrime, etc. I've heard The X Factor and The Chemical Wedding being referred to as concept albums, but I dispute this strongly (well, strong enough without actually ever saying anything).

But it IS a concept......its an album that is lyrically and thematically derived from the poetry of william blake.
Thats a conceptual approach isnt it? They wrote all the songs with the concept of his poetry and artwork in mind, they were written with a specific purpose of capturing his poetry in music. Theres no story, but i still think its a concept album! :)
Spawny goes to put his foot down.........

I dont know if you have heard it, but brutal planet by alice cooper doesnt have a story, just a series of songs based on the concept of the future and what it will be like, but its still a concept album, so that means so is chemical!
Spawny PUTS his foot down. Right, chemical wedding IS a concept album, the foot is down, there will be no correspondence entered into, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars! :D :D

I dont think x factor is a concept album though, i agree with you there!
