subject to change soon, especialy the lower half I guess...
Ufomammut - Idolum
crushing anthems with a sound of crystal, a siren of the deep. Can't wait for their show at the Roadburn fest in April...
October Falls – The Womb of Primordial Nature
one of the most beautiful Nordic metal albums in recent memory, brilliantly paced and highly seductive. Gives me shivers similar to Bergtatt.
Steve von Till – A Grave Is a Grim Horse
his best collection of songs to date, a dear companion for the lonely evenings.
Leviathan – Massive Conspiracy against all Life
Blasphemic, vicious, decadent: Wrest all over.
Bohren & der Club of Gore – Dolores
A greatly satisfying album, characterized by a solid come-back of their cabaret-jazz undertones. Extremely soothing and cathartic.
Asva – What You Don’t Know Is Frontier
this probably files under drone, but it's anything but drone in terms of cinematic voyage. Beautifully layered with sweeping waves of organ. Summons a Blade Runner-like atmosphere that is simply delicious to get lost into.
Proclamation – Messiah of Darkness and Impurity
pure butchery. Best war metal album since Sargofago - INRI imo
Stille Opprør – s.o2
a very interesting evolution for this project of a former In The Woods... member, from acoustic guitar only to a deep and experimental brand of Nordic rock. A bunch of quality songs full of feeling, with traces of Bob Dylan, Anathema, jazz and even early post-rock à la Bark Psychosis
Nachtmystium – Assassins: Black Meddle pt. 1
a love or hate affair it seems. I love.
Darkspace – III
Darkspace is simply unreal. Three albums of basically the same receipe over and over again, and I'd be buying the next one blind, and the next...
Other bands with releases worth mentionning this year woud be Lifelover, Austere, Agalloch, Arghoslent, Lethal... and I forget several. Still haven't heard new Skepticism...
